Job Description: The Stores Operator role is responsible for supporting and continually improving a safe, efficient stores management system, covering goods inward and outward, stock control, and general site support. The position involves receiving, inspecting, recording, storing, picking, packing, and despatching goods, maintaining accurate real-time stock records, ensuring full traceability, and proactively managing space using 6S principles, while complying with all health, safety, security, and quality requirements. The role also supports waste management, PPE control, audits, safety activities, and site upkeep, and requires effective communication with other departments and external parties. Strong organisational, IT, and inventory management skills are essential, along with a high level of professionalism, integrity, and continuous improvement mindset. Operating a Counterbalance Fork Lift Truck (FLT) is essential, alongside use of other material handling equipment and company vehicles, making FLT competence a critical requirement for the role. Principal duties & responsibilities Goods Inward Receipt of deliveries to site, including ensuring that all delivery personnel are accompanied on-site at all times and access to the site (including vehicle access) is in compliance with company working practices, security arrangements and Health & Safety legislation. Notification of deliveries to other functions via e-mail and phone calls and logical storage of goods. Receiving goods on general ledger system so real-time stock system. Ensure that there is a thorough review of the quality of all goods that have been received and ensuring that any issues are raised promptly on receipt through the appropriate channels (e.g. Quality Department /Non-Conformance Reporting process). Day to day organisation of goods received including putting stock away and pro-actively managing the space within Stores, using 6S Workplace Organisation techniques. Goods Out Packing of certain goods for despatch including quality check before packing. Attend weekly despatch meeting and pro-actively engage and implement contribute and take suggestions to the meeting. Completion of checklist outlining weights and dimensions of items and working in conjunction with Despatch and Despatch administration to ensure efficient and effective shipping of goods. Stock Control Monitor stock against agreed inventory levels using stock system Participate in stock counts and reconciliation against stock system Ensure stock items have appropriate codes in conjunction with Ensure full traceability of all stored materials/items Use stores requisition system and keep records General Respond to telephone calls to the stores and deal with all related enquiries Support in waste stream management in conjunction with HSE function (waste oils, hazardous waste, packaging, scrap metal & other materials) Issuing in a controlled manner all PPE equipment and ensuring compliance with company work instructions. Participate in safety tours, behavioural assessments, risk assessments, environmental impact assessments and audits on main stores activities and work areas Contribute to the compilation of stores operational procedures Operate Counterbalance FLT, Pedestrian Pallet Stacker Truck and company vehicles in accordance with Company rules and legal requirements Carry out Tool Destruction using a plasma cutter. Contribute to site upkeep (e.g. car park magnetic sweep, sweep up leafs, jet wash waste stream areas). Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Must have: Experience in a stores/warehouse environment and experience in operating a computerised stores management system An ability to work in a logical and structured manner, keeping excellent records and a disciplined approach to data management and filing Be conversant with inventory management and stock counting IT skills (MS Excel essential and Outlook email essential) Full driving license Counterbalance Fork Lift Truck experience Nice to have: SPM/recognised national qualification (certificate) in stores/warehousing is preferred Knowledge of stores management techniques and systems, particularly in a busy factory setting IT skills (Navision/General ledger and barcode system experience would also be an advantage) Knowledge of COSHH datasheet and hazardous materials handling This Job Description indicates the main areas of activity and is not intended to be an exhaustive list.
