Junior Sister/Charge Nurse

We are delighted to offer a permanent band 6 opportunity based on LMB Ward B8 at RSCH.
Ward B8 is a 24 bedded ward within acute frailty at RSCH where we care for patients who are acutely ill, of various ages, often very frail and suffering from underlying chronic conditions. The ward offers an amazing opportunity to gain further experience in an expanse of general nursing care and to become expert in many nursing skills.
You must be able to work well under pressure and possess good interpersonal, communication and IT skills.
As a band 6 on the ward you will gain leadership skills to become competent in leading shifts and to support and develop the team effectively to give the best clinical care possible.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will work as part of a team to provide an effective, safe environment of care for individual patients, their relatives and carers.
To be responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care without supervision.
To act as the designated deputy to the Ward Manager.
To teach and supervise junior and unqualified staff and maintain a learning environment.
To provide a patient-centred nursing service on the ward aiming to achieve the highest possible standards of care delivery, in accordance with the Trust's Strategy for Nursing and Midwifery.
Deputise in the absence of the Ward Manager.
Develop the service within a collaborative framework.

Job responsibilities
Co-ordinates the daily ward activity to enable the best use of human and other resources to meet patients needs and liaises with the Clinical Site Manager and Senior Nurses- Lead Nurse, Matron, Ward Manager, Medical team or on call medical team to facilitate overall management of the medical unit.
Effectively and professionally deals with emergency situations and debriefs staff where appropriate.
Works with the ward manager to promote an effective learning environment on the ward
Assists the ward manager in continuous practice development of the ward and leads in designated areas. Specialisms within the ward include frailty care, care of older people, End of life care and dementia care.
Supervises, teaches and acts as an appropriate role model and mentor for junior and unqualified staff and demonstrates the ability to communicate practical skills.
Assists the ward manager in identifying training needs, through the use of the appraisal process, to professionally develop self and others. Participates in the Band 6 development programme.
Assists in the recruitment, selection and retention of staff, including organising and participating in orientation/ induction and adaptation programmes and signing bank and agency time sheets.
In conjunction with the ward manager monitors sickness and absence in accordance with Trust policy.

Relevant Skills and Experience
* Experience as a Band 5 nurse
* Experience of general medical nursing
* Has an awareness of care of older people
* Has shown that they wish to develop
* Practice Supervisor and Practice Assessor
* Leadership Course
Qualifications
* ENB 998 / Mentorship or equivalent
* Educated to Diploma level education in relevant subject or equivalent
* Edward Jenner programme (or working towards)
