Health Care Support Worker - Acute Medical Receiving Unit
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.
Shifts: Rotational 7 day a week working / days/nights. This unit is based in Acute Medicine Receiving Unit, a 68 bedded unit that supports a 24-72 hour patient journey and aims to maximise each patient’s potential for recovery with a multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
* Work at the heart of multidisciplinary teams delivering high quality, patient-centred care under supervision of a Registered Nurse.
* Communicate effectively with a broad range of individuals, both verbally and in writing, to maintain high standards and work collaboratively within the team as per vision and values.
* Provide compassionate, professional care and demonstrate the ability to adapt to challenging situations in a high-pressure environment.
* Support patient care activities in acute medicine receiving, with a focus on patient comfort and safety.
The post requires an innovative individual with experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in acute care. Good interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to demonstrate a caring attitude.
* Essential requirements: venepuncture/cannulation, blood glucose recording, wound care.
Induction Standards & Code of Conduct
Your performance must comply with the national Mandatory Induction Standards for Healthcare Support Workers 2009 and the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers. You will be required to achieve the mandatory Induction standards for Healthcare Support Workers in Scotland and to comply with the Code of Conduct throughout your employment.
