Job Description

Start here. Grow here.

Are you ready to support a team of talented engineers and shape the future of the water industry?

Join our dynamic and multidisciplinary Water Team as a Senior or Principal Process engineer in our rapidly growing Belfast or Dublin offices – whilst also taking advantage of our flexible hybrid working model.

At AECOM, we’re at the forefront of innovation, delivering an exceptional portfolio of water programmes and projects through long term frameworks with key clients, including Uisce Éireann and Northern Ireland Water (NIW). This role provides a great opportunity to develop your career as a technical expert, delivering solutions on a diverse range of projects that meet the technical challenges of today and tomorrow.

Here’s what you’ll do:

1. Lead process and hydraulic design for water and wastewater infrastructure projects, delivering high-quality engineering solutions across the full project lifecycle in accordance with relevant standards and legislation.

2. Prepare, review and approve technical deliverables, including process flow diagrams, mass balances, P&IDs, control philosophies and associated technical and safety documentation, while making sound engineering decisions and identifying when specialist input is required.

3. Provide technical leadership and quality assurance, contributing specialist expertise to multidisciplinary studies and supporting effective management of risk, programme, budget and quality objectives.

4. Champion safe and compliant design, actively participating in HAZOP and HAZID studies and producing or reviewing key process safety deliverables such as Hazardous Area Classification and Layer of Protection Analysis.

5. Collaborate with clients and multidisciplinary teams to develop integrated, sustainable engineering solutions, representing AECOM in technical discussions and supporting informed decision-making and stakeholder buy-in.

6. Mentor and develop junior engineers, delegating and overseeing work, providing technical guidance, and contributing to the growth of AECOM’s technical capability and innovative approach.

7. Support project delivery through site visits, asset surveys and commissioning activities where required.

Become part of our dynamic water business, which boasts around 600 experts across the UK & Ireland. Collaborate with top-tier engineers and consultants to deliver a variety of captivating projects, from small initiatives to large-scale ventures, all the way from concept to completion.

Enjoy the Perks.

You’ll thrive in an inclusive and forward-thinking environment where your contributions are valued - and let's not forget the perks! At AECOM, you'll enjoy a range of core benefits designed to support your future and well-being, and flexible benefits you can customise to suit your lifestyle. Take advantage of our technical practice networks, AECOM University, and volunteering days to accelerate your career development, and utilise our flexible hybrid working model to create a healthy work-life balance. We recognise that everyone’s circumstances are different, so we’re more than happy to discuss part-time or flexible working arrangements.

Qualifications

Ready to push the limits of what’s possible?

Here’s what we’re looking for:

8. Degree (or equivalent) in Chemical Engineering.

9. Working towards or completed Chartered Engineer status with IChemE or CIWEM.

10. Experience in wastewater treatment, managing the technical delivery of large-scale engineering projects.

11. Experience in water and wastewater process design and optimisation using appropriate Water Company standards and specifications.

12. Knowledge of Feasibility and Optioneering Studies for wastewater treatment processes.

13. Functional safety awareness and the contribution of the Process Team in this regard forms a significant part of the design process.
