Anexciting opportunity has arisen to join the award-winning OWLS (Oncology andHaematology Walk-in Liaison Service) at Leeds Childrens Hospital. Based acrossthe Childrens Haematology and Oncology Day Unit and Ward L31, OWLS providesexpert, holistic care for children and young people with malignant andnon-malignant blood conditions who present acutely unwell.
Thisnew, innovative service was recognised with the 'Patient Involvement in Safety'award at the LTHT Patient Safety Conference 2024. The successful candidate willjoin a supportive, forward-thinking team committed to improving care andoutcomes for patients and families.
Werelooking for a motivated and compassionate nurse ready for a Band 6 leadershipchallenge. Youll need strong communication and teamwork skills, with a passionfor paediatric care. Previous oncology/haematology experience is notessentialfull training and education will be provided.

Main duties of the job
Asa Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse Specialist, you will undertake and beresponsible for the clinical management and co-ordination of high quality,safe care for patients who are acutely unwell with a haematology or oncologycondition. You will be responsible for triaging the patients, both over thephone and when they attend the unit for assessment. You will follow uppatients who have been assessed by the team within 24 hours. You will liaiseregularly with other agencies in health, social care and education and workas part of a cohesive multidisciplinary team. You will support training,education and staff/service development across the unit. This is aparticularly exciting time, where you will help the management team toimplement new ways of working across the wards and improve patient safety andexperience. The OWLS service is a team of nurses who cover 24 hours a day, 7days a week.

Job responsibilities
TheJobholder is responsible for the management of a defined caseload. Thejobholder carries continuing responsibility for the assessment of care needs,the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and thesetting of standards of care.
Thejobholder will provide specialist nursing care, treatment and advice to aspecific patient group and will contribute to the development of the specialityservice. The jobholder will ensure cost effective use of resources.
Thejob holder will support the development of interdisciplinary and whole serviceworking. As a role model they willpromote the sharing of good practice and delivery of high quality, effectiveand efficient care. The job holder will provide training and education to staffgroups, patients and families/carers.

Experience
* Current issues in healthcare
* Significant and recent relevant experience working as a Band 5 Staff Nurse
* or equivalent post registration experience within the speciality

Qualifications
* Registered Nurse (RN Child for childrens areas (Level 1 or 2)
* Recognised teaching/assessing qualification or equivalent experience of teaching and assessment
* Evidence of continued professional development
* Willing to undergo training as necessary
* Degree Level Education or evidence of working towards.
