Consultant - Emergency General Surgery (EGS)
Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking an EGS Consultant with a sub-specialty interest in Colorectal, Paediatrics or complex interventional endoscopy (non-exhaustive). The successful applicant will join an existing team of Emergency Surgeons. The department is fully funded and supported through the National Forum for Acute Surgeons. Full support will be in place to develop subspecialty interests within the job plan (e.g., Colorectal, Children’s surgery or advanced endoscopy).

Responsibilities
* Work with current specialty leads to build initial working patterns and operating procedures for the department, including EGS wards, operating theatres and ambulatory care.
* Develop ambulatory and alternative provision models to support patient care.
* Provide an Emergency General Surgery (EGS) service of the highest standards for Cornwall.
* Develop a specialty interest within the realms of children’s general surgery, colorectal or upper GI surgery, hepatobiliary or complex endoscopic practice.
* Share responsibility with colleagues for day-to-day management of the EGS department, including development of a research portfolio.
* Teach and train junior staff and medical students in EGS; develop weekly evidence-based governance and service development.
* Ensure ongoing development via Continuing Medical Education (CME).
* Fulfill duties of weekly timetable including any out-of-hours duties.
* Provide patient cover for off-site/absent consultant.
* Engage in flexible timetabling with cooperation and teamwork.
* Support colleagues throughout the multidisciplinary team and promote a culture of respect.
Qualifications
* Essential: Full GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice
* Essential: On GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of interview
* Experience: Teaching (Medical students, peers, MDT) and experience in Clinical Audit and Clinical Governance
