Job Description
You’ll be at the core of NBC News’s international operation, working alongside the Senior Desk Editor in coordinating and supporting teams in the field and in the newsroom as they produce content for our key platforms, including TODAY, Nightly News, MSNBC, and NBC News Digital. Your role involves organizing lives and pre-tapes, managing requests, setting up interviews, deploying personnel, and booking travel, all while keeping teams updated on news stories and video. Familiarity with video transmissions and editing short clips is essential. You will also utilize social media and research tools to identify stories and ensure rapid coverage. Excellent communication, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure are crucial.
Main Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To
* Coordinating resources and communicating with the senior desk editor, field teams, show producers, content platforms, and platform editors.
* Managing live requests for NBC News platforms and partners.
* Coordinating with SatOps, MCR, and field teams on live shots.
* Updating the network with breaking news and video content.
* Compiling staffing logs, editorial updates, and output records.
* Handling bookings for live transmissions or tape windows with vendors.
* Deploying teams abroad on short notice and arranging travel.
* Assisting with risk assessments and safety protocols for field teams.
* Identifying and pitching key stories and themes.
* Verifying stories through local sources and officials.
* Collaborating with partners and affiliates for video and editorial support.
* Transmitting key video content from various sources.
* Supporting editing and field edits.
Qualifications
Skills and Experience
* Experience on a news desk of a leading international TV news organization, preferably with a US outlet.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced, live news environment.
* Strong news judgment, current events knowledge, and familiarity with key stories.
* High attention to detail and accuracy.
* Multitasking skills.
* Excellent communication and professional conduct under stress.
* Experience managing satellite operations is preferred.
* Understanding of social media’s role in news delivery.
* Experience with iNews and Avid is preferred.
* Familiarity with video agencies and licensing is a plus.
* Knowledge of NBC News standards and editorial policies.
Requirements
* University degree or equivalent experience.
* Eligibility to work in the UK.
* Flexibility to work hours including overnights.
* High standard of written English.
* Polite phone manner and good communication skills.
* Strong teamwork ethic.
* Additional languages are a plus.
