Offer description

Make a real impact in communities across Northern Scotland.

At the British Red Cross, we help people prepare for, withstand, and recover from crises. Our Community Resilience programme strengthens local organisations, builds preparedness, and empowers communities to coordinate their own support when emergencies happen.

We’re now looking for a Community Resilience Coordinator to help grow and support the Community Resilience Hubs Programme across Northern Scotland, funded by SSEN. If you are passionate about community empowerment, partnership working, and engaging with diverse local groups — this could be your ideal role.

What you’ll be doing

Build Stronger Communities

* Engage with local authorities, voluntary sector partners, faith groups and community organisations.
* Foster trusted relationships and support collaboration across the region.

Deliver Training & Preparedness Activities

* Develop and run bespoke workshops, training sessions, and exercises using co-production and community engagement methods.
* Help communities identify their vulnerabilities, strengths, and resources through participatory mapping and risk assessment.

Support and Recruit Community Advocates

* Recruit and support local advocates and volunteers.
* Help design scalable volunteer support and training resources.

Coordinate Community Needs & Assets

* Assist groups in conducting environmental scans, social network analysis and assets mapping.
* Work with internal BRC teams to analyze data and contribute to digital community resilience maps.

Strengthen the Programme

* Contribute to newsletters, reports, evaluations, and research activities.
* Support the development of tools and best practice to enhance the national Community Resilience approach.

What we’re looking for

Essential experience and skills

* Strong knowledge and practical experience of community engagement and community organising.
* Experience developing, coordinating, and delivering workshops with community groups.
* Ability to motivate and engage people from diverse backgrounds.
* Confident working remotely and managing competing priorities.
* Competent with Microsoft Office and digital communication tools.
* Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.

Desirable

* Experience in resilience or emergency planning.
* Experience recruiting or coordinating volunteers.
* Skills in participatory mapping, data analysis, or using digital mapping tools.
* Ability to design user‑centred training or services.

In return for your commitment and expertise, you’ll get:

* Flexible working: Remote and hybrid working, flexitime, compressed hours, and job sharing.
* Holidays: 36 days annual leave (including bank holidays) + option to buy 5 extra days.
* Pension scheme: Up to 6% contributory pension.
* Learning & Development: A range of career & learning opportunities.
* Discounts: Blue Light Discount Card, Tickets For Good & employee benefits platform.
* Wellbeing Support: Peer Supporters, CiC (EAP) & Headspace App.
* Cycle2Work: Lease a bicycle through the scheme.

We are proud to be part of the Disability Confident scheme for UK-based roles. During your application, you'll have the option to apply under the scheme.

We are dedicated to building an inclusive, equitable and wellbeing‑focused culture where everyone feels safe, valued and can thrive. Guided by our Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Wellbeing Strategy, we foster belonging, psychological and physical wellbeing, and work to remove barriers to fair opportunities. Grounded in compassion and anti‑racist practice, we listen to diverse voices, value lived experience and create environments where staff and volunteers can succeed. Join us and be part of an organisation that leads with care, celebrates difference and helps everyone succeed.

Together, we are the world's emergency responders

Interested? The closing date for applications is 23.59 on Sunday 22nd March 2026. Interviews commencing Wednesday 1st April 2026.
