Position Overview
A unique opportunity has arisen with Sheffield Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (STH), Cardiothoracic Directorate, to recruit a Deputy Chief Perfusionist. The Directorate provides a range of complex tertiary services and performs over 900 adult cardiac procedures annually. This role requires a strong track record in delivering high‑quality perfusion services, leadership, and a commitment to professional development.
Responsibilities
* Lead and manage a team of 8 perfusionists and 6 surgical care practitioners, providing professional advice and ensuring high quality patient‑centred services.
* Deliver safe, efficient and reliable perfusion and surgical care in partnership with lead surgeons and anaesthetists.
* Continue development of perfusion and SCP services in collaboration with surgical teams.
* Act as deputy chief perfusionist in the absence of the Chief Perfusionist, guiding both perfusion and CSCP teams at The Northern General Hospital.
* Lead by example as an expert and autonomous practitioner while providing organisational leadership, clinical and professional services to the multidisciplinary team.
* Organise facilities and staff to enable the directorate to meet contractual and professional targets.
* Balance clinical and managerial duties, with an expected time split of 70% clinical and 30% managerial.
* Carry out additional managerial duties associated with the role and fully participate in the department on‑call rota.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must be accredited by the Society of Perfusionists of Great Britain & Ireland and registered with the College of Clinical Perfusionists of Great Britain & Ireland. They should have proven experience in high‑quality perfusion services, strong leadership, communication and organisational skills, and demonstrable team‑management and service‑planning expertise.
