Role Overview
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a skilled CNC Setter/Operator to join the metal fabrication department. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting and operating CNC punch press and press brake equipment to manufacture precision metal components for electrical enclosures and distribution equipment. This is a hands-on skilled engineering role requiring expertise in CNC metal fabrication, the ability to read technical drawings, and experience with precision measuring equipment. Working in a specialised production environment means every job is different, offering variety and the opportunity to use your technical skills across diverse projects. You will also play a key role in training other operators and apprentices, ensuring safe and efficient operation of machinery.

Key Responsibilities
Set and operate CNC punch press and CNC press brake machines to manufacture metal components
Set up modern paint plant equipment
Download programs and engineering drawings from database using PC
Read and interpret technical engineering drawings to ensure work meets specification
Use precision measuring equipment including verniers, micrometers, and gauges to verify dimensions and tolerances
Set up tooling, fixtures, and machine parameters for each production run
Perform first-off inspections to ensure parts meet drawing specifications
Train other employees and apprentices on safe machine operation
Update GEMBA production recording system efficiently and accurately
Carry out and record daily safety checks and TPM maintenance schedules
Troubleshoot machine issues and make adjustments to maintain quality
Work with minimum supervision and provide clear instructions to operators
Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute suggestions
Comply with all health and safety procedures and company policies
Essential Requirements
Time-served engineer or completed engineering apprenticeship
Minimum 3 years post-training experience operating CNC press brake or CNC punch press (essential requirement)
Expert knowledge of either CNC press brake bending or CNC punch press operation
Ability to read and interpret technical engineering drawings
Proficient use of precision measuring equipment including verniers and micrometers
Mechanically minded with strong problem-solving skills
Good IT skills for downloading programs and using computer systems
Good standard of maths and numeracy
Quick learner with ability to adapt to different jobs
Ability to work with minimum supervision
Hardworking, reliable, and well-organised
Able to communicate at all levels
Calm under pressure with flexible approach to varied workload
Desirable Skills & Experience
Experience with both CNC press brake and CNC punch press
Welding and fabrication experience
Previous CNC programming experience
Experience training and mentoring other operators
Electrical enclosure or sheet metal fabrication background
