Role Overview
This is an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Project Manager to join a growing Programme Team within Capital Delivery, supporting the delivery of SEMD security enhancements across the Thames Water Estate. In this role, you will support the management and delivery of a portfolio of projects from initial design through to completion, working closely with experienced Project Managers and wider delivery teams.
Responsibilities
* Support and promote a positive Health, Safety & Environment culture across projects and with partners and suppliers.
* Assist with the delivery of projects to agreed time, cost and quality targets, helping to track progress, risks and actions.
* Support the development and delivery of project solutions that meet regulatory, statutory and internal requirements.
* Assist with governance compliance, reporting and stakeholder engagement throughout the project lifecycle, supporting smooth asset handover into operations.
* Support the development of project briefs and supporting documentation, including information for early contractor involvement.
* Support the delivery of projects and work packages across the Security and Emergency Measures Direction (SEMD) programme, working on schemes of varying scale and complexity across Greater London and the Home Counties.
* Support the Project Manager in liaising with the CDM Designer / Principal Designer, helping to ensure duties are understood and met.
* Support project assurance activities during delivery, commissioning and handover of assets.
* Help coordinate multiple workstreams, working collaboratively with internal teams, framework contractors and external consultants.
Work arrangements
This is a hybrid role based on one of our Thames Valley sites. You’ll typically be on-site or in the office 2–3 days per week, with flexibility around base location within the Thames Valley.
The role is 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
Qualifications
* Experience in project management, engineering, and security of operational environment within the water or utilities industry.
* Some experience supporting projects or programmes – this may come from formal Project Management roles, engineering, construction, operations, or similar environments.
* Experience within SEMD, security‑focused projects, or the water industry is valuable but not essential — we welcome transferable skills and a willingness to learn.
* An organised, proactive approach, with the ability to track actions, support reporting and contribute to continuous improvement.

* Competitive salary from £39,500 to £47,000 per annum based on experience.
