What you will be doing
You will join an inclusive and supportive team that works well together to provide care to people with learning disabilities, using your knowledge and skills to help people along their recover pathway towards leading a valued and fulfilled life. Your day-to-day will include ward rounds, analysing behaviours and adapting care accordingly with colleagues, updating patient records, and providing overall care and support, which may include assisting with personal hygiene. It can be quite a challenging environment at times, so a positive attitude, compassion, resilience and vigilance are important. But it is hugely rewarding to see people improve because of your involvement, knowing that you’ve made someone’s life better. Where you will be working: You will be working at Walcott House, a Learning Disability and Autism service which provides a specialist residential service for men and women with a range of learning disabilities, including autism and sensory and communication impairments.
You will work alongside the multidisciplinary team to provide care and support to individuals with a learning disability and require a high level of support to live within a community setting and will continue to require this longer term. Service users may be transitioning from children’s residential services, education, moving out of the family home. We are also experienced in successfully managing clients moving from services where their placements may have broken down or where their needs are no longer being met.
The aim of the service is to encourage individuals to lead a full and valued life, enabling them to live more independently through a programme of active community engagement, developing meaningful social networks and developing robust coping strategies. What you will get
