The Role:
We are seeking a Head of Data Service Provider to lead the strategic direction, performance, and evolution of our data services within the UKs smart metering infrastructure. This is a critical leadership role responsible for ensuring that our data platforms, services, and integrations are secure, scalable, and aligned with national energy and digital transformation objectives.
You will lead a team of data specialists, architects, and service managers, setting the tone for excellence in data governance, service reliability, and innovation. Your leadership will be instrumental in shaping the data strategy that underpins our smart metering ecosystem, ensuring it delivers trusted, high-quality data services to support operational, regulatory, and customer outcomes.
Working across delivery, technology, commercial, operations, and regulatory functions, you will embed data services as a strategic enabler of decision-making and transformation. You will champion a data-first approach, ensuring our platforms and services are integrated, secure, and future-ready. You will also hold suppliers to account for delivering robust data service roadmaps that meet evolving business and customer needs.

Responsibilities:
Data Service Strategy and Leadership Define and communicate the strategic vision for data services, ensuring alignment with organisational goals, industry trends, and regulatory obligations.
Team Leadership and Capability Development Lead and develop a high-performing team of data service experts, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
End-to-End Data Service Ownership Oversee the full lifecycle of data services, from architecture and integration to performance, compliance, and evolution.
Driving Performance and Accountability Set clear expectations for data service quality, reliability, and compliance, holding internal teams and suppliers to account.
Enabling Transformational Change Provide leadership on data service enablement for major transformation programmes, ensuring data is a trusted enabler of secure and scalable change.
Stakeholder Engagement and Influence Represent the data service function in executive, regulatory, and industry forums, building trusted relationships and influencing strategic direction.
Cross-Functional Collaboration Ensure data service decisions are integrated across business, technical, operational, and regulatory domains.
Governance and Standards Leadership Lead data governance activities, ensuring consistent application of standards, frameworks, and best practices.
Supplier and Partner Management Ensure suppliers deliver against data service roadmaps, technical quality, and service outcomes.
Investment and Roadmap Planning Shape business cases and investment proposals for data service initiatives, ensuring strategic coherence and value for money.
Skills & Experience:
Proven Leadership in Data or Technology Functions Experience leading data service or technology teams in complex, regulated environments.
Strong People Leadership Ability to inspire and grow high-performing teams, building capability and confidence across the organisation.
Track Record of Leading Complex Change Experience driving data-related transformation programmes with significant business and regulatory impact.
Strategic Thinking and Decision-Making Ability to balance long-term data strategy with short-term operational needs.
Commercial and Business Acumen Understanding of how data services support business outcomes and value delivery.
Executive and Stakeholder Engagement Skilled communicator, able to influence and build trust with senior stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
Governance and Standards Expertise Experience establishing and leading data governance and compliance frameworks.
Supplier Management Ability to hold suppliers accountable for data service quality, innovation, and roadmap delivery.
Excellent Communication Skills Able to convey complex data-related information clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
