What you’ll be doing
In this role, you will lead the development and delivery of the SSC Competence & Training strategy, ensuring it meets regulatory requirements and aligns with business objectives. You’ll be responsible for maintaining a robust competency framework, mapping training to specific roles, and establishing assessment processes to support knowledge retention and reduce operational risk. Centralising training operations, you’ll oversee scheduling, resource management, candidate tracking, reporting, certification, and budget planning. You’ll drive continuous improvement in training delivery and materials, promote stakeholder engagement, and provide accurate data insights to support programme uptake and development. The role also involves delivering training courses and materials, ensuring all processes are well documented, and acting as deputy to the Head of the Integrated Management System when required.
Team
The Competency & Training Manager reports to the Head of the Integrated Management System within the Safety, Security & Compliance (SSC) division, ultimately reporting to the Director of SSC. While this role owns the strategy and delivery of SSC training and professionalisation, the role holder will be supported by one direct report and various specialist stakeholders. Success depends on leading a coordinated strategy and operational approach across matrix teams within and beyond the SSC division.
Requirements of the Role
What you’ll need to do the role
To succeed, you’ll need experience in civil aviation and a strong understanding of competency frameworks, instructional design, and aviation regulations. You should be skilled in managing complex, cross-functional programmes, developing and improving training systems, and using data analytics for reporting and improvement. Excellent communication and leadership skills are essential, as is the ability to engage and influence stakeholders, deliver training, and support organisational change. Attention to detail and the ability to maintain comprehensive documentation are important. Desirable skills include knowledge of civil aviation training regulations, experience with ISO standards, managing training budgets, and proficiency with training production software such as VYOND. Location & Hours of Work
This is a full-time role (40 hours per week) with hybrid working (3 days per week in the office). Business travel may be required.
