Mechanical Design Engineer (Construction Equipment)

The Role
This is a specialist contractor that designs and manufactures its own equipment – from lightweight aluminium access platforms to excavator‑ and slope‑mounted drilling rigs, for use on challenging geotechnical projects across the UK. You’ll be joining a small, friendly and collaborative team, where your skills and expertise will be valued.
Day to Day
* Lead design for slope stabilisation drilling equipment and rope access systems.
* Develop new concepts into detailed 3D designs using SolidWorks.
* Produce manufacturable drawings and prototype assemblies.
* Work closely with operations teams and suppliers to optimise equipment for use and production.
* Conduct design calculations and FEA to verify strength and safety.
* Support continual improvement of existing equipment through design optimisation.
* Spend time in the workshop reviewing prototypes, troubleshooting, and refining builds.
The Individual
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
* Minimum 2 years experience in a similar design‑focused role.
* Knowledge of FEA and hand calculations.
* Practical mindset and familiarity with a workshop / manufacturing environment.
