Consultant Psychiatrist, CAMHS Harrow (attracts £20K RRP)

We are looking for a full-time (10 PA) Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to work in the Neurodevelopmental team (8 PAs) and LD team (2 PAs) within Harrow CAMHS (CNWL).

This is an exciting opportunity for an energetic, innovative and dedicated clinician with ideas for service development, who will collaborate with paediatricians, schools, third sector organisations, children’s services and allied health professionals. We support flexible working.

Golden Hello of £20K payable in two instalments (taxable and non-pensionable). Relocation package for up to £8K (subject to eligibility). Generous annual leave entitlement, study leave, NHS pension, and staff discounts including on car purchase and lease.


Main duties of the job

The postholder will:

* Provide psychiatric leadership to the Neurodevelopmental Team (NDT) and supervise the Band 7 nurses within the team, including a nurse prescriber.
* Support the MDT in neurodevelopmental assessment of new referrals and offer consultation to colleagues and direct assessment where indicated.
* Run one outpatient clinic per week for medication management and review of complex cases.
* Lead development of the team to assess and manage young people with complex presentations, neurodevelopmental comorbidity and often high risk.
* Contribute to innovative models for assessment and management of neurodevelopmental disorders and support initiatives with parents, schools and 3rd sector partners.
* Support, maintain and develop existing initiatives (e.g., information sharing psychoeducation for ADHD, initiating medication group, collaboration with 3rd sector).
* Within the LD team, provide psychiatric assessments and reviews and oversee pharmacological treatment; offer psychiatric consultation to other MDT clinicians and support risk assessment and management.
* Collaborate with Education, Social Care and Paediatrics; participate in risk assessments and management; support transitions to Adult Services where appropriate.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

NDT

* Assess and manage children with neurodevelopmental disorders +/- psychiatric comorbidity
* Provide leadership and senior psychiatric input to the neurodevelopmental team
* Develop specialist clinical services for children with neurodevelopmental difficulties and associated high risk
* Take Consultant responsibility for assessment, care plans and pharmacological treatment
* Prioritise urgent cases; collaborate with clinical colleagues
* Offer consultation to CAMHS clinicians and be available for case discussions; liaise with Education, Social Care, Paediatrics and 3rd sector; support transition to Adult Services
* Supervise clinical staff and contribute to risk assessment and management; liaise with Tier 4 services when indicated

LD

* Provide psychiatric assessments and reviews and oversee pharmacological treatment within the LD team
* Attend LD referrals meetings and assess cases requiring psychiatric input
* Support case managers in risk assessment and management
* Collaborate with Paediatric colleagues for joint treatment plans; contribute to new service models and CETRs/DSR
* Follow NICE guidelines and relevant evidence base for treating young people with intellectual disability; manage medication for challenging behaviour when appropriate


Education, Qualifications and Experience

Essential

* Primary Medical Degree
* Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practice
* Section 12 MHA Approved
* Approved Clinician status or willingness to apply
* On GMC Specialist Register or CCT expected within 6 months of interview

Desirable

* MRCPsych (or equivalent)
* Additional relevant post-graduate qualification for working with children and adolescents
* Inclusion on Specialist Register for CA Psychiatry (or CCT expected within 6 months)


Experience, Skills and Abilities

Essential

* Competence in psychopharmacology and non-medication therapies
* Experience in assessment and management of neurodevelopmental disorders with psychiatric comorbidity, complex presentations and high risk
* Knowledge of Clinical Governance/Care Quality; able to participate in Medical Audit and Quality Improvement
* Experience in teaching and supervision of junior staff

Desirable

* Experience with young people with moderate/severe LD, management training, research experience, publications
* Experience in Paediatrics; ADI-R/ADOS training


Personal Skills and Qualities

Essential

* Excellent communication and empathic skills; leadership and team-working abilities
* Strong organisation, initiative and resilience; able to work under pressure
* Cultural sensitivity and ability to work in a multi-ethnic environment


Other

Desirable

* Computer literacy; full UK driving licence
