This post is full time, 35 hours per week and is permanent.We are seeking to appoint a Technician in Digital Fabrication and Design to provide high-quality, customer-focused technical support within our 3D fabrication workshops, supporting the core activities of colleagues and students across the Westminster School of Media and Communications and the Westminster School of Arts.The role provides laser cutting, 3D printing and CNC machining services to students. Alongside hands-on technical support, the postholder will manage user inductions and the workshop booking system. You will also support the academic delivery of courses through both traditional and contemporary fabrication and model-making techniques, assisting students with practical project work. Working closely with academic and technical colleagues, you will help ensure that fabrication and finishing equipment is effectively maintained, and that safe working practices and compliance with HSE and COSHH regulations are upheld.The successful candidate will have demonstrable knowledge and experience in laser cutting, 3D printing, CNC machining, digital and traditional fabrication, and model making. Operational competence with 2D and 3D digital design tools used to prepare files for laser cutting, CNC machining and 3D printing is essential, as is the ability to work with common student file formats and convert them for fabrication workflows, including those from 3D modelling/visualisation tools and vector-based design software. Experience working in a fabrication or model-making workshop especially with traditional techniques such as woodwork, metalwork or casting, alongside digitally aided fabrication would be desirable.
