This is a Hybrid role 2 days remote and 3 days in the office
Job responsibilities
The purpose of the role is to procure private rented sector properties for people who have rough slept or are at risk of homelessness, while also providing rapid and intensive support to help them sustain their accommodation.
The officer is responsible for building and maintaining strong working relationships with landlords, estate and letting agents, and other private sector suppliers, promoting the benefits of working with the Council, and negotiating terms that encourage landlords to let their properties through Council schemes.
The role includes inspecting and assessing properties to ensure they meet Housing Act 2004 standards and other health and safety requirements, advising landlords and tenants on Local Housing Allowance rules, benefits, and exemptions, and maintaining accurate databases of landlords, enquiries and property availability.
The job involves identifying opportunities for individuals in temporary accommodation to move into the private rented sector, promoting Council schemes through events such as landlord forums and publicity materials, and working collaboratively with internal teams and external agencies including outreach services, police, probation, hostels, advocates, and support organisations.
The officer must handle complex cases involving clients with multiple needs such as mental health issues, drug or alcohol misuse, and other vulnerabilities, providing creative and solutions‑focused interventions to prevent homelessness.
