We are looking for a confident and experienced practitioner for a 6 month Secondment to lead the Orchard House Day Hospital Team. Orchard House Day Hospital is a community based service for people over 65 who have functional mental health problems. The team work with people referred by the Home Treatment Team, CMHT, the acute older people wards and out patients, and currently covers both Oldham and Middleton patients. The service opens Monday to Friday (closed for Bank Holidays) and working times are 8.15 - 16.15. The team are a multi disciplinary team made up of OT's, nurses, TI's, admin, a support worker and an NA. Group work experience is essential as this is the main offer of the service, offering a range of both social, physical and psycho -educational groups.
Main duties of the job
* The provision of effective clinical leadership and operational management of Orchard House day Hospital
* To act as a senior point of contact for service users, their relatives and carers.
* To lead on the monitoring of all staff sickness, in accordance with Trust policies.
* To ensure that all staff follow the guidelines identified in the Trust and National policies.
* To act as authorised signatory and responsible for a delegated budget.
* Ensure compliance with all clinical requirements across the Day Hospital offer including assessment, care planning, provision of interventions and reviews in accordance with local and national policy and guidelines.
* Take responsibility to maintain the standards for the team base environment using Health and Safety and infection control standards

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Orchard House Day Hospital Manager is responsible for leading a multi- disciplinary team deliver a high quality, community based service for older people with functional, acute mental health problems. The role of the service is to prevent the need for admission and to enable safe and sustainable early discharge from the acute ward. The service aims to work with individuals using a recovery model to develop coping mechanisms, social engagement and symptom management to work towards a significantly decreased need for intervention by statutory services.

• To act as a senior point of contact for service users, their relatives and carers. The post holder will experience some high expressed emotions at times and be able to manage challenging behaviours.
• To lead on the monitoring of all staff sickness, in accordance with Trust
policies.
• To ensure that all staff follow the guidelines identified in the Trust and

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
* Occupational Therapist or Nurse with current professional registration
* Appropriate post graduate diploma or post registration equivalent.
* Evidence of Continual Professional development
* IT Literate
* Preparation for mentorship
Desirable criteria
* •Educated to degree level
* •Accredited skills training
* ECDL
* •Trained to deliver psychosocial interventions
Experience
Essential criteria
* •People management experience
* •Substantial experience of working in a health or social care setting.
* •Experience at Band 6 and evidence of appropriate clinical management experience.
Desirable criteria
* •Experience of working in a range of mental health settings
Knowledge
Essential criteria
* •Knowledge of treatments and interventions appropriate for individuals with acute mental health needs
* •Good understanding of Mental Illness.
* •Ability to demonstrate working knowledge of the Mental Health Act and CPA process.
* •Knowledge of current policy and guidance in relation to the development of Mental Health Services.
* •Understanding of confidentiality and data protection issues.
Desirable criteria
* A good understanding of the role of carers and care planning in the delivery of effective crisis services

* •Ability to provide leadership to the clinical team and work within a management team framework

* •Ability to provide a high level of professional expertise in the care of clients with complex needs.

* •Ability to provide appropriate education and training to qualified and unqualified staff as appropriate.

* •PARIS trained (this should be essential for internal staff)
* •A good ability to use data-systems, understand large amounts of team-level data and to interpret and act on the data to improve performance or standards of the team
* •Be confident to present data and to use data to support greater efficiencies and performance from the team in the context of business planning cycles.
