We are recruiting for a Trainee Sonographer - Maternity who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.
The Trainee Sonographer should hold a recognised first degree and have Health Professional Council membership or Trust accreditation.
The person in this role will practice under supervision, including formulating a diagnostic report. Must have the ability to analyse and communicate sensitive and complex information in a manner understandable to patients.
Candidates shortlisted for interview will be notified on 22nd September and interviews will take place on 24th September 2025 (afternoon).
Successful candidates must be available to commence the University course on 30th September 2025.

Main duties of the job
The Trainee Sonographer will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering a high quality ultrasound service.
The successful candidate will undertake appropriate ultrasound examination under the supervision of a qualified practitioner according to departmental protocols, adjusting technique as necessary according to patient condition.
You will perform a highly skilled ultrasound examination, using a high level of manual dexterity to produce accurate diagnostic images for reporting.
The post holder will be exposed to sensitive or intimate examinations which may result in exposure to body fluids, odours, infected wounds, urinary and faecal incontinence, vomit.
You will also be expected to communicate effectively with patients and their relatives, this could be distressing or unwelcome news, including foetal death or abnormality.

Qualifications / Training
Essential criteria
* BSc in Midwifery or equivalent with current professional NMC registration
Desirable criteria
* Further relevant study in antenatal care / antenatal screening
* Evidence of counselling / bereavement training
Previous Experience
Essential criteria
* Evidence of personal and professional development in current role
* Demonstrate an interest and evidence of background research into the role and responsibilities of a Midwife Sonographer
Desirable criteria
* Previous experience in ultrasound or antenatal screening
* Evidence of research into academic places of study in medical ultrasound
Knowledge
Essential criteria
* Awareness of current safety requirements; PHE, FASP, NICE and other relevant national guidelines
* Keen to support the organisation’s strategic objectives, with particular regard to the quality of the patient journey
Other Requirements
Essential criteria
* Prepared to work contracted hours flexibly, including working at weekends if/when required
* Able to transfer patients following manual handling training
