Learning Support Assistant We’re working with a large, inclusive secondary school in west Newcastle that is well known locally for its strong pastoral culture, clear behaviour systems, and commitment to student wellbeing. The school supports a diverse intake of pupils, including those with SEND and SEMH needs, and places real value on the role Learning Support Assistants play in helping young people feel safe, regulated, and able to engage with learning. Newcastle upon Tyne £90–£110 per day | PAYE | Depending on experience About the school Part of a well-established and respected local trust Strong focus on pastoral care, inclusion, and high expectations Collaborative SEN and pastoral teams who work closely with support staff Easily accessible via local bus routes and within reach of major roads into Newcastle, making it a practical commute from across the city and surrounding areas On-site support, clear routines, and consistent structures that help staff and pupils thrive The role As a Learning Support Assistant, you will: Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils who need additional help to access learning Support students with SEND, SEMH, and behavioural needs, particularly during lessons, transitions, and unstructured times Help pupils regulate emotions, build confidence, and engage positively in school life Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to maintain a calm, supportive learning environment Be a consistent, trusted adult presence for students who benefit from structure and reassurance We’re looking for someone who: Has experience working with children or young people (schools, care, youth work, support work, or similar) Brings patience, empathy, and resilience to their work Understands that behaviour is communication Is reliable, calm under pressure, and committed to safeguarding Is happy to work PAYE and values transparency around pay School-based experience is helpful, but not essential – the right attitude and willingness to learn matter most.
