Job Description:

We are seeking to recruit a highly-motivated Research Assistant to join the David group at the Babraham Institute. The post holder will join a team of scientists studying the mechanisms of healthy ageing with a focus on identifying ways to prevent protein aggregation. The group is embedded within the Signalling Programme which provides a highly collaborative and thriving research environment.

The lab works with the nematode C. elegans and the main techniques used are molecular biology, reverse genetics, biochemistry, proteomics, fluorescence, and confocal microscopy. The successful candidate will perform experiments with C. elegans, including RNAi screening, functional assays, and advanced microscopy. The role will also involve some standard laboratory tasks (such as purchasing and lab organization) and molecular cloning. We are looking for a self-driven and well-organized individual with the ability to work both in a team and independently. Prior hands-on laboratory experience in molecular biology techniques is essential. Additional experience in advanced microscopy (confocal, CLEM) would be highly desirable. Prior experience with C. elegans is also highly desirable although not essential. The ideal candidate must have a BSc or MSc in biological sciences.

We are committed to hiring the best people for the available jobs, which is why we are offering flexibility in the contract length and working hours to suit the post-holder. In the cover letter, applicants should outline their suitability for these roles, their preferred appointment length (up to two years), and their preferred working hours (e.g., full-time, part-time, or job share).

This is a limited-term appointment with funding for this post available for a period of 2 years in the first instance.

A full job specification and role requirements can be found attached to this vacancy.

Informal enquiries can be addressed to [emailprotected]

Closing date for applications: Friday, 4th August 2025.

We reserve the right to close the vacancy early depending on application volume.

The Babraham Institute welcomes applications from all sections of society.
