Teacher of Health and Social Care
Full time - Permanent
Whickham School is seeking to recruit an engaging and inspirational teacher of Health and Social Care. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with our skilled teaching team of 3 staff. You will be joining the PE and Health & Social Care faculty, which consists of 13 members ranging from ECTs to experienced leaders. Health and Social Care is one of the most popular and successful courses at level 2 and level 3, supporting over 60 pupils to gain a strong level 2 qualification each year.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed individual to make a difference in the lives of young people. We place a strong emphasis on pastoral work and the role of a tutor, using a restorative approach to support pupils. The school is heavily oversubscribed, and results are considerably above local and national averages (progress 8 in 2024 was +0.26).
Our vision for all pupils is that they are valued and inspired to be the best they can be. We seek to develop the following four qualities:
* Aspiration - Whickham students set ambitious goals without limitations.
* Respect - Demonstrated for themselves, others, and their environment.
* Resilience - Perseverance in facing challenges and setbacks.
* Empathy - Kindness, caring, and understanding of others' feelings and needs.
One of our strengths is our commitment to staff, including:
* Reduced teaching allocation for collaborative faculty meetings to support pedagogy and development
* Access to salary sacrifice schemes (e.g., bicycle and electric vehicle leasing)
* Leadership and professional development opportunities
* A supportive environment considering work/life balance
* A highly regarded ECT programme with positive feedback
* Access to school fitness facilities out of hours
* Priority admission for children of staff
Details about the role, skills, and qualities required are in the attached job description and person specification.
We welcome visits from prospective applicants. Please contact Neil McMahon (nmcmahon@whickhamschool.org) to arrange a visit. Applications should be submitted by 9am on Monday 19th May.
* Whickham School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students and young people. All staff and volunteers are expected to share this commitment.
