Overview
The Head of Research Delivery & Support for Wider Care Settings is a senior leadership role focused on strategic oversight, deployment and delivery capabilities of the South East RRDN's Agile Research Delivery Team. You will join at an exciting time, working with a collaborative regional and national team to develop, lead and deliver research across the South East. The role is hosted by the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust and requires regional travel from an agreed base and some national travel. This is a job share at 0.6 WTE with work days Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Responsibilities
* Liaise with NIHR Research Delivery Network (RDN) Delivery Organisations across settings to ensure effective support by the Agile Research Delivery Team.
* Co-lead the Work of the Study Support Service Team with a focus on wider care settings, alongside the Head of Partner Liaison and Planning.
* Oversee the RRDN Study Support Service for wider care settings, integrated within the national Study Support Service and interfacing Agile Research Delivery team.
* Provide strategic oversight, deployment and delivery capabilities at the system level and contribute to continuous improvement of research delivery services.
* Establish trust and work collaboratively and inclusively, translating complex environments and relationships into clear plans and actions.
* Support broader stakeholder liaison and feedback to help the organisation learn and develop as a learning organisation.
* Engage with research partners across the health and care system and contribute to an environment that supports research.
Role Details

Job responsibilities
* The contractual base is the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust in Guildford with regular travel to local and regional offices and some national travel.
* Act as a senior leader within the RDN, providing strategic direction and guidance and work as part of a community of senior leaders across the national network to harmonise Agile Research Delivery Teams and study support services for wider care settings.
* Co-develop and lead on national projects; align regional operational activities with national objectives with RRDN Specialty and Settings Leaders.
* Provide strategic leadership to research delivery sites, contribute to strategic planning (including three-year strategies) and address operational challenges as an active partner.
* Lead the implementation of national strategic directives within the region and local RRDN, with reporting on learnings, successes and challenges.
* Contribute to collective national business planning for Agile Research Delivery and Study Support/Partner Liaison services for out-of-hospital settings.
* Coordinate, review, evaluate and approve research site delivery plans with delegated responsibility for performance monitoring to ensure appropriate use of RDN funding.
* Lead regional business planning for the Agile Research Delivery Team and Study Support Service, ensuring effective implementation and reporting.

Qualifications
Essential
* Masters level qualification or equivalent experience.
* Management qualification.
* Evidence of continual professional development.
Desirable
* Project Management qualification or equivalent experience.
Knowledge
Essential
* Specialist knowledge of research, the NHS and the wider health and care system including duties to the public and patients.
* Understanding of life science industry needs in health and care research.
* Knowledge of governance and legislative frameworks for clinical research in the NHS.
* Understanding of the UK research pathway and funding; national systems for supporting clinical research in NHS and non-NHS settings.
* Knowledge of BI and performance management techniques.
* Experience of problem-solving and continuous improvement relevant to system-level health and care working.
* Experience in senior health and care research management, including pre- and post-approval studies.
* Experience of chairing meetings, including sensitive topics; experience in managing research support services including workforce and finances.
* Experience delivering high quality customer-centric services for commercial and non-commercial customers; collaborating across organisations and delivering across boundaries.
* Operational research leadership at a senior/system level; direct line management experience and delivering objectives through change.
* Experience in business planning, financial management and operational implementation within an NHS context.
* Experience contributing to national policy or strategies and translating them into regional plans; experience leading continuous improvement; project management leadership across multiple agencies and tight deadlines.
Desirable
* Professional strategic leadership at a senior level.
