This role is accountable for performing imaging procedures which may include MRI, CT, X-ray, DEXA, or Ultrasound, deferring to Lead Radiographer/Centre Manager when required. In addition, this role guides Radiographers and Radiographic Assistants in their everyday activity. This role operates with a high degree of professionalism at all times to ensure the provision of a high-quality, responsive, and patient-focused service.
Main duties of the job
1. Undertaking a wide variety of imaging examinations on different makes and models of equipment, acting as a Practitioner as defined within IR(ME)R 2017, requiring an assessment of each referral and decision on whether to proceed with the examination as requested, modify or reject it.
2. To determine and deliver the most appropriate imaging procedures, assisting with diagnosis and subsequent treatment of a wide range of patients and conditions. This may lead to discussion and refusal of requests from doctors and emergency nurse practitioners using IR(ME)R regulations.
3. Preparing patients for imaging procedures alongside other Radiographers and Radiographic Assistants, explaining the procedure, and ensuring patient comfort and proper positioning.
4. Ensuring all referrals are justified and providing advice on protocols if required.
5. Ensuring patient identification and safety checks are completed prior to imaging examinations.
6. Producing consistently high-quality images, administering contrast media in line with PGD guidance, SOPs, and protocols.
7. Assessing all images for quality and clinical significance, escalating urgent findings.
8. Completing, post-processing, and allocating examinations for reporting at the end of each day.
9. Managing own clinical areas regarding linen change and cleanliness.
10. Supervising junior Radiographers and Radiographic Assistants when required, ensuring compliance with IRR2017.
11. Adapting protocols and procedures for best practice in conjunction with local radiologists and clinician requests.
12. Providing clinical input to promote the service to local clinicians.
13. Acting professionally within the standards provided by HCPC and College of Radiographers Code of Conduct, maintaining active registration with HCPC.
14. Maintaining high standards of practical work and patient care, including privacy and dignity, providing support and reassurance to patients.
15. Maintaining personal CPD and professional portfolio in line with HCPC & CoR requirements.
16. Updating clinical practices, participating in clinical trials, and staying current with latest techniques.
17. Carrying out safeguarding responsibilities and supporting policies for children and vulnerable adults.
18. Participating in the Radiation Protection Supervisors team, providing reports and incident reports with RPA support.

20. Understanding safety issues related to working on 1.5T and 3T scanners.
21. Following safety guidelines, performing QA tests, ensuring safety of patients and staff, reporting malfunctions, and complying with IR(ME)R 2017 and ionising radiations regulations.
22. Ensuring environmental safety and legislative compliance, maintaining infection control standards, contributing to risk assessments.

* BSC in Radiography or equivalent
* 2 years post-qualification experience in CT/MRI
