The role
As a Reactor Mechanical Fitter, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary where you’ll utilise technical competence to work within strict tolerances as a Mechanical Fitter in a highly regulated and process driven environment.
Day-to-day, you’ll carry out a range of maintenance and installation activities, working on various systems and equipment in radiologically controlled areas, in support of complex submarine engineering projects.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.
There is an opportunity for Optimised Working Patterns (OWP) within this role. OWP is a temporary variation to your standard terms and condition that commits you to support 7-day working arrangements. For full details of the patterns, pay and durations, this can be found in the OWP 1 and OWP 2 agreements (available from hiring manager).
Primarily, it involves 4-week shift cycles consisting of either day/back shift or day/night shift. An example of the remuneration for these shifts is as follows:
Gross salary: £35,
Gross OTE for core Dayshift/Backshift Pattern: £50,
Essential experience of the Reactor Mechanical Fitter
6. Experience of working within Marine Engineering environments and projects
7. Exceptional hand skills with the ability to work to close tolerances
8. Demonstrable experience of working on the removal, installation, and overhaul of mechanical equipment with a particular focus on propulsion equipment and auxiliary system equipment
9. Ability to work methodically and to high standards, including tool control
10. Ability and confidence to read and interpret technical drawings
Qualifications for the Reactor Mechanical Fitter
11. Time served apprentice within the field of Marine Engineering / Naval Submarine engineering
12. Indentured Apprenticeship in a mechanical discipline
13. Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship in a mechanical discipline
14. Level 3 Mechanical Engineering qualification
