Job Summary

In this role, you will be liaising with the Planning & Production Manager to ensure that Production and Quality targets are met in accordance with the Plant and Customer requirements.

1. Manage a production team in compliance with safety rules, good manufacturing practices, quality standards and the objectives defined by their hierarchy.
2. Lead the CADCAM, HSM and EDM production teams and ensure continued development.
3. Ensure upward and downward communication with the production team and their hierarchy (represents West’s management)
4. Analyse situations and implement preventive and corrective actions accordingly.

Lead and champion Lean Sigma programmes and activities, whilst supporting the Management Team to meet delivery and cost objectives. You would also be responsible for Training members of the Team and Mentoring, whilst sharing best practices with less experienced colleagues. You will comply with the company’s safety, environmental and quality policies at all times.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

5. Manage a team of tooling Engineers and Operators for CADCAM, HSM and EDM in compliance with safety rules, good manufacturing practices, quality standards and objectives In consultation with Technical Leads, provide technical consultation and guidance to the Team
6. Manage plant wide tool design processes and systems and liaise with Global Design Engineering on tool design matters
7. Program machine tools and issue associated drawings and information to production as appropriate
8. Plan and allocate resources in order to meet Production requirements
9. Ensure systems are relevant and effective through control of Department procedures and audits
10. Ensure communication and alignment with upstream and downstream processes and other Departments
11. Ensure all Company Policies and Procedures are adhered to and manage associated behaviour
12. Manage department Quality in line with Product specifications
13. Report, resolve and escalate accidents, incidents, HSE regularities and ensure that all workplace inspections are completed and sufficient
14. Ensure Training and Development needs are identified and delivered to ensure competence and compliance of the Team
15. Comply with all corporate and local site Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality policies, procedures and regulations
16. Ensure relevant SOI’s are completed and understood by the Team
17. Ensure control plans, maintenance and safety schedules are accurate, up to date and followed
18. Responsible for the general housekeeping and presentation of relevant Departments and ensure progress and compliance of 6S systems
Ensure the Team's PPE is used and maintained appropriately
19. Demonstrate and use a proactive mindset in order to actively develop processes to increase automation and utilization of equipment

Education

20. Required: Formal engineering apprenticeship to NVQ3 level/City and Guilds or equivalent relevant work experience
21. Required: Minimum of 5 years' experience in Engineering and/or Toolmaking
22. Desirable: Some experience in a supervisory or management role
23. Desirable: Formal supervisory training NVQ level 3 (or equivalent qualification/work experience)
24. Desirable: Higher National Certificate (or Higher qualification) in Engineering Discipline

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Required:

25. Experience of Managing a team in a Production and Engineering environment
26. Good communication, professional and interpersonal skills
27. Knowledge/experience of engineering design principles and drawing conventions
28. Knowledge/experience in setting & programming CNC equipment
29. Knowledge/experience of Milling and EDM processes
30. Knowledge/experience of use of measuring equipment
31. Experienced and conversant PC user

Desirable:

32. Experience in elastomer mould, plastic mould and press-tool manufacture
33. Experience in automation processes & database managed machine tools
34. Experience of Lean Manufacturing techniques
35. Experience in CAD and/or CAM

Travel Requirements

5%: Up to 13 business days per year

Physical Requirements

Medium-Exerting up to 50lb/22kg of force occasionally and/or up to 20lbs/9kg of force frequently, and/or up to 10lbs/4kgs of force constantly to move objects.
