Process Engineer – Gear Manufacture
Join Leonardo as a Spur Gear Process Engineer within the Transmissions Centre of Excellence, based in Yeovil.
Your Impact
You will provide technical support and instruct on Spur and helical gear manufacturing processes within a busy, dedicated aerospace team. Working in a structured, technically challenging, but friendly environment, you will deliver manufacturing engineering activities in support of a high‑accuracy gear shop – gear hobbing, shaping, grinding and inspection machines, for carburized and nitride gears ranging from 30 mm to 600 mm diameter for helicopter components.
What you will do
* Provide technical support and expertise for the manufacture of spur and helical gears, creating and maintaining standard procedures, process review and non‑conformance reviews.
* Utilise existing strategies and develop strategies for improving product quality, reducing non‑conformance and excessive stock removal.
* Develop knowledge of tooling requirements for hobbing, shaping, gear grinding and inspection operations.
* Implement best‑practice working environments and practices, ensuring high manufacturing standards and inspection rationalisation.
* Keep up to date with advances through seminars, working parties and training courses.
* Deliver improvement action plans and initiatives, and support audits on gear manufacturing processes.
What you’ll bring
* Educated to at least HNC or Degree in Engineering discipline with at least five years relevant manufacturing experience.
* Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage conflicting requirements and multiple projects.
* Ability to drive change and process improvement activities.
* Detailed understanding of gear manufacturing processes, cutting, grinding, inspection and non‑destructive testing.
* Integrity and professional approach to business needs.
* Good understanding of CATIA (V5), ENOVIA or 3D software.
* Familiar with Lean Manufacturing techniques.
It would be nice if you had
* Working knowledge of MRP system, SAP.
* High level with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
* Working knowledge of machine operation, setting and CNC programming.
* Experience with engineering change and documentation processes.
* Awareness of Health and Safety.
