Live-in Couple
Near Kings Langley, Hertfordshire
Position: Full-time, permanent live-in role
Accommodation: Provided on site
Working hours: 5 days per week, 8 hours per day (including a 1-hour break)
Salary: £80,000 combined
Start date: Early April 2026
The Residence
A beautiful country estate serving as a second home for a young family, currently used as a weekend and school holiday home but will become the primary residence from summer 2026.
The main house offers 6 bedrooms and is supported by several additional buildings across the estate including: nanny flat above the garage, A stable barn with two offices, A two-bedroom guest house, An entertainment barn with a principal's office above, A two-bedroom cottage, soon to be refurbished for use as either Airbnb accommodation or staff housing.
The family enjoy hosting and entertaining, and at full occupancy the estate may accommodate up to 14 guests including the family.
The Role
An experienced and proactive Live-in Couple is sought to support the smooth running and upkeep of this private estate. Reporting to the Estate Manager, whose office is based on the estate, the couple will act as guardians of the property, ensuring the residence and grounds are maintained to a high standard and ready for the family's visits.
This is a hands-on role requiring flexibility, discretion and a service-oriented approach, with responsibility for both the interior and exterior presentation of the estate.
Position Details
Housekeeper / Family Cook
Reporting to the Estate Manager and Head Housekeeper, the Housekeeper will oversee the interior upkeep of the residence and assist with family hospitality.
Key responsibilities include:
* Acting as guardian/key holder
* Housekeeping across all buildings on the estate
* Laundry and wardrobe care
* Periodic deep cleaning
* Creating and maintaining cleaning schedules
* Preparation of simple family meals
* Grocery shopping and larder management
* Errands and driving when required
* Food and beverage service
* Assisting with family events and entertaining
* Receiving and recording deliveries
* Managing cleaning supplies
* Liasing with contractors
* Ensuring opening and closing procedures are followed
* Assisting with the care of 7 alpacas and 4 chickens
* Supporting with light outdoor tasks when required
Groundsman / Handyman
The Groundsman / Handyman will be responsible for the maintenance, presentation and functionality of the estate's exterior spaces and facilities.
Key responsibilities include:
* Acting as guardian/key holder
* Maintaining grounds, gardens and outdoor areas to a high standard
* Care and maintenance of vehicles
* Care of boats
* Preparing outdoor facilities including BBQ, pizza oven, jacuzzi and children's play equipment
* Driving and errands
* Liasing with contractors
* Supporting family events when required
* Receiving and recording deliveries
* Assisting with the care of 7 alpacas and 4 chickens
Light maintenance duties include:
* Gutter clearing
* Biomass boiler checks
* Ensuring waste bins are collected
* Solar panel care
* Possible pool maintenance
A strong practical skillset and good DIY ability would be highly beneficial. A security conscious approach is essential, ensuring all opening and closing procedures are followed.
Skills & Experience
* Fluent English, written and spoken
* Good standard of cooking
* Both candidates must drive and have their own transport
* Previous private household or hospitality experience preferred
* Service-oriented with strong attention to detail
* Animal friendly
* Computer literate (email, internet, WhatsApp)
* Non-smokers preferred
* Practical mindset and DIY skills advantageous
