Part 21J Cabin Interiors Design & Certification Engineer
£60,000 - £80,000 base + benefits

About the Opportunity:
We are hiring for a Cabin Interiors Design & Certification Engineer to support the development, integration and approval of commercial aircraft interior modification solutions across multiple platforms.
This role offers the chance to work across the full design and certification lifecycle, collaborating with airlines, regulators and multi-disciplinary engineering teams on high-profile, safety-critical programmes.
Key Responsibilities:
Design Engineering
- Support the design and integration of cabin interior and aircraft modification solutions
- Produce CAD models, installation drawings and engineering documentation
- Develop specifications and technical design data for interiors systems and equipment
- Assist with test plans, validation and design verification activities
Certification Engineering
- Ensure designs comply with EASA/FAA regulations and Part 21J DOA processes
- Prepare compliance documentation including reports, safety assessments and risk analyses
- Support certification programmes for new products and modifications
- Liaise with regulatory authorities and internal stakeholders to obtain approvals
Technical Support
- Provide engineering support to production, installation, testing and maintenance teams
- Troubleshoot design and certification issues and implement effective solutions
- Act as a technical point of contact for customers during modification programmes
Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to improving design and certification processes and best practices
- Keep up to date with evolving regulations, technologies and industry standards
You may support modifications including:
- Seating and monument installations (galleys, lavatories, partitions, VVIP interiors)
- Cabin layout changes and reconfigurations
- Cargo handling systems
- Water & waste systems
- Exterior liveries and related structural/integration updates
Skills & Experience Required:
- Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent experience)
- Understanding of aerospace design fundamentals and engineering principles
- Experience using CAD tools (CATIA / 3DEXPERIENCE or similar)
- Knowledge of EASA/FAA certification processes and Part 21J environments
- Ability to prepare technical documentation and compliance artefacts
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Comfortable working cross-functionally and directly with customers
- Proactive, organised and adaptable
Desirable:
- Aircraft interiors or modification programme experience
- Exposure to DOA processes and regulatory liaison
- Previous involvement in certification or compliance projects
