2 x Part Time Posts – Total of 1.2 WTE

Edinburgh/Glasgow: Hybrid Working will apply for the foreseeable future

An exciting secondment opportunity has arisen for 2 highly motivated and enthusiastic pharmacists to take on the role of deputy project lead for the Scottish Antimicrobial Prescribing Group, allowing the post holders to make a real difference to stewardship and antimicrobial resistance in Scotland.

This position will be offered as 2 part-time secondments to provide flexibility for candidates and health boards. One will focus on primary care, and the other within acute care.

The Scottish Antimicrobial Prescribing Group (SAPG) is a multidisciplinary group working with NHS boards and across health and care settings to promote the safe and effective use of antibiotics. We collaborate closely with NHS National Services Scotland (NSS), NHS Education for Scotland (NES), and Antimicrobial Management Teams in regional health boards. More information on our work can be found on our website.

As part of SAPG, the post holders will help deliver the targets set out in the UK AMR National Action Plan and SAPG strategy 2025-29, through leading and supporting antimicrobial stewardship activities across Scotland.

We seek strategic thinkers with experience of working at a national level, capable of prioritising work and thriving in a changing environment. Candidates should be self-motivated, proactive, and innovative, able to work autonomously.

Main duties of the job

The key role involves leading national multidisciplinary groups of infection specialists to evaluate and prioritise clinical interventions. The post-holder will advise SAPG on clinical decision support and guidance in specific areas such as primary care and diagnostic stewardship. The outputs from these workstreams will inform clinical practice and patient care in infection management across NHS Scotland. The post also involves leading and managing topic-specific clinical guideline reviews and decision support to support the delivery of the UK Antimicrobial Resistance Action Plan 2024-29 for Scotland. Creating these resources at a national level will promote a unified approach for Scotland.
