About the Role An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Estimator / Quantity Surveyor to join a growing construction business based in the Scottish Highlands. This is a key commercial role, responsible for managing project costs from pre-construction through to final account, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, profitably, and to the highest standards. You’ll work closely with site teams, design managers, and senior leadership, playing a central role in planning, procurement, and commercial management. This position also includes leadership responsibility, managing and mentoring another estimator. This role offers the chance to work on diverse and rewarding projects across one of the UK’s most unique and scenic regions. Key Responsibilities Estimating & Pre-Construction Prepare accurate cost estimates and tender submissions Measure quantities from drawings and specifications Obtain and analyse subcontractor and supplier quotations Develop cost plans, budgets, and value engineering proposals Support pre-construction planning and bid reviews Commercial & Cost Management Manage project budgets, cost reporting, and cash flow forecasts Monitor financial performance and identify risks and opportunities Produce monthly valuations, CVRs, and financial reports Support commercial decision-making with timely, accurate data Procurement & Subcontract Management Assist in procuring subcontractors and suppliers Prepare enquiry packages and assess tender returns Support subcontractor appointments and contract administration Manage variations, change control, and payments Contract Administration & Reporting Assist with contract administration in line with agreed conditions Prepare and agree valuations, variations, and final accounts Maintain accurate commercial records and documentation Liaise with clients, consultants, and internal teams Project & Team Support Work closely with site teams to control project costs Support value engineering and cost-saving initiatives Assist with project handovers and post-completion activities Manage and mentor a junior estimator Travel to remote Highland locations and islands as required What We’re Looking For Strong numerical, analytical, and commercial skills Solid understanding of construction methods and processes Excellent attention to detail and accuracy Strong communication and negotiation abilities Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines A proactive, resilient, and solution-focused mindset Leadership skills with experience managing or mentoring others Commitment to delivering high-quality commercial outcomes Qualifications & Experience Degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or similar Proven experience in a Quantity Surveyor or Estimator role Knowledge of standard construction contracts Competent in estimating and cost management software Full UK driving licence (desirable) Career Development This role offers clear progression opportunities, including: Senior Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Manager Pre-Construction Manager Strategic commercial leadership roles Potential pathway to senior leadership and equity participation based on performance Apply Now If you’re ready to take the next step in your commercial career and want to be part of a growing business, we’d love to hear from you.
