Job Summary
The NHS Talking Therapies Team on the Isle of Wight is looking for highly motivated individuals to join as a trainee PWP (tPWP). The role combines university‑based training with a stepped‑care model of service delivery for anxiety and depression. A driving licence and own vehicle are essential for providing clinics in community settings.
Key Responsibilities
* Attend the Post Graduate Certificate in PWP Practice at the University of Southampton 1–2 days per week for one year.
* Provide assessment and delivery of low‑intensity NICE‑recommended interventions under clinical and line‑management supervision.
* Offer 3–4 days of patient‑facing work each week via face‑to‑face, telephone, online or group formats.
* Participate in team meetings, caseload management, clinical skills workshops and line‑management supervision.
* Complete administrative tasks including session write‑ups, onward referrals, signposting, risk management and safeguarding reporting.
Qualifications & Experience
* 2:2 degree in a clinical, health or science subject, or Level 4 qualification with relevant professional experience.
* Experience supporting people with low mood or anxiety.
* Knowledge of medications used in anxiety and depression and other common mental‑health problems.
* Demonstrated understanding of evidence‑based psychological therapies and their application to this role.

* Understanding of the presentation of anxiety and depression.
* Knowledge of NHS Talking Therapies and the stepped‑care model.
* Ability to build trust and work effectively with patients to achieve lasting recovery.
* Resilience and capacity to maintain boundaries to manage personal stress.
* Adaptability to change, knowing when to seek guidance and support.
* Risk‑management and safeguarding skills.
* Group facilitation experience.
* Ability to sit for prolonged periods for face‑to‑face, telephone or computer sessions.
* High enthusiasm and motivation for a high‑volume, outcomes‑based approach with expected targets.
* Respect for autonomy, confidentiality and other professional standards (e.g. NMC Code of Conduct, BABCP Standards).
* Effective use of clinical supervision and self‑reflection.
* Time‑management and prioritisation skills for a high‑volume service.
* Work under personal initiative and adapt flexibly to service needs.
* Computer literate and able to learn new systems.
* Understanding of the need for demonstrating clinical outcomes.
* Advanced communication skills, including verbal, written, telephone and report writing.
Benefits and Conditions
* Permanent band 4 contract; full‑time, paid £28,392‑£31,157 per annum.

* Employment beyond training contingent on passing the course and registration as a qualified PWP with the BABCP or BPS.
