As Interim Building Control Officer, you will support a proactive Midlands local authority in delivering safe, compliant, and high-quality building control services. This interim role offers the opportunity to make an immediate impact across a varied caseload, working closely with developers, contractors, and internal teams to uphold regulatory standards and drive service excellence. This is a site-focused role, with the majority of work involving on-site inspections rather than office-based duties. The council is open to discussions around flexible working arrangements. The role has been identified as a part-flexible worker type, meaning you will be able to work from other locations, including remotely (from home or on site), when not required at the office. Key Responsibilities as Interim Building Control Officer:- Assess and determine building regulation applications in line with statutory requirements. • Conduct site inspections to monitor compliance and advise on remedial actions. • Investigate unauthorised works and take appropriate enforcement action. • Provide technical guidance to stakeholders and maintain strong working relationships. • Support continuous improvement of the Building Control service and contribute to wider development goals. Your previous experience as Interim Building Control Officer:- The ideal candidate will be a qualified and experienced Building Control professional with a strong track record in local authority settings. You’ll bring:- In-depth knowledge of building regulations and associated legislation and experience of working in a Local Authority environment with Councillors and a wide variety of stakeholders • Experience managing a diverse caseload and working independently. • Must be a registered Building Inspector with the Building Safety Regulator - Minimum Class 2A and membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., RICS, CABE, CIOB) is highly desirable. • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills. • A proactive approach to service delivery and stakeholder engagement.
