Role summary

The Category Delivery Senior Advisor Convenience Retail plays a critical role in realising Procurement’s objective to become an elite procurement organisation that delivers relevant, value-adding category strategies. The role requires a deep understanding of the business to gather demand, challenge the business where necessary, and deliver step changes in 3rd party spend by applying innovative solutions and change management. It aims to deliver secure, optimal, compliant and competitive, risk-managed category outcomes. The primary focus is to create transformative category strategies based on supply market expertise, current and future business needs and innovation opportunities that identify impactful business value, with a focus on savings through effective category deployment. The role develops implementation plans and works with Business Interface peers and FB&T to support successful implementation to agreed timelines. The CDSA ensures that all work at a category level has the necessary urgency to support safe, compliant, reliable and efficient business operations. The role works with stakeholders to develop strategies to drive supplier innovation, value and efficiency into Retail convenience offers across Europe and the UK. The role focuses on delivery across three main areas.


Responsibilities

* Supporting the business in the negotiation of wholesale agreements / convenience partnerships.
* Tender commodity categories such as coffee, AdBlue, etc. across Europe.
* Sourcing and supporting complex negotiations for merchandise for resale, including due diligence, supply chain cost of goods, partnering with the Retail Category Managers on range reviews, new product developments and Supplier Performance Management.
* Supporting the business in offer development – developing innovative, differentiated offers by accessing innovation from the supply base.

Reporting to the Global Convenience Senior Manager, the role acts as the link between category strategy, supplier innovation and procurement value creation, using the global network and FB&T to enable the Retail Convenience strategy across Europe.


Key Accountabilities

* Category delivery in Convenience Retail EU: delivers category performance that meets/exceeds relevant metrics including safety and compliance.
* Delivers regional needs regarding wholesalers, convenience partnerships and direct FMCG & commodity contracts while aligning to category plans.
* Consolidates demand plans with the wider category team; understands local commercial landscape to create ethical strategies.
* Manages supplier performance and interventions to ensure timely resolutions and prevent leakage.
* Advocates for opportunities to partner, collaborate, develop and strengthen relationships with contractors and suppliers.
* Unlocks value in line with category management policy.


Team integration

* Collaborates across procurement (including FB&T) and the business to create a ‘one team’ mentality.
* Builds EU Convenience Retail knowledge across the category team to achieve objectives.
* Develops technical capabilities and accelerator skills.
* Embraces psychological safety and bp values as a foundation for collaborative learning and innovation.
* Complies with bp's Code of Conduct (CoC) and policies to ensure compliance.


Supplier & Stakeholder Management

* Communicates impactfully, respectfully challenges to achieve right outcomes, resolves conflicts, and focuses on priorities.
* Influences through complexity and ambiguity in multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural environments.
* Builds strong stakeholder relationships, understanding business needs and championing supplier value.

* Partners with internal subject area teams to drive category excellence.

Essential Education

* Degree educated – related to Procurement preferred or equivalent professional experience.
* Postgraduate qualification related to procurement desirable.


Essential Experience and Job Requirements


Functional knowledge

* Understanding of strategic direction, priorities and stakeholders within a business context.
* Knowledge of Retail and Convenience management principles and the Convenience Retail category.
* Understanding of how strategies flow through to execution in Convenience Retail and how channel of trade influences the bottom line.
* Ability to quickly understand business objectives and harmonise them with category strategies.


Business expertise

* Good stakeholder management and influencing skills; deep understanding of supported businesses/regions/assets and priorities.
* Critical thinking and commercial competence; experience in multi-national organisations.
* Track record of collaborating with businesses/partners to deliver continuous improvement.

* Subject matter expert who shares knowledge and drives delivery of priorities; collaborates across category, business, suppliers and beyond to achieve goals.
* Experience leading initiatives internationally, understanding cultural nuances, data-driven insights, and agile approaches.
* Adheres to the Operating Management System (OMS) and safety leadership principles in strategies and daily work.

* Partners with the business to develop innovative solutions, removes blockers and enables delivery; translates requirements into a demand plan with judgement.
* Embraces industry challenges and disruption, pioneers solutions while managing risk; collaborates across multiple parties to solve complex problems.
* Maintains relationships during conflict and translates requirements into strategic delivery plans.


Interpersonal skills

* Strong networking and influencing to secure consensus and adoption; acts as a strategic partner to regions/sites/assets.
* Experience interacting with external suppliers and representing bp externally.
* Effective change management with influencing, engagement and storytelling abilities.
* Perseverance through organizational complexity and resistance to change.


Desirable criteria

* Commercial negotiation skills; influencing and partner leadership; organisational and project management skills.
* Financial and market analysis skills; supplier relationship management.
* Understanding of Retail procurement, SAP, Ariba e-sourcing or similar; strong English; local language skills (German, Polish) preferred.
