Job overview

As a Research Nurse/Midwife/AHP based at the South West Central Regional Research Delivery Network’s hub in Bristol, you will play a key role in delivering high‑quality health and care research across a variety of healthcare settings. This dynamic role with the Agile Research Delivery Team offers the opportunity to support research studies in primary care, community services, NHS Trusts and other settings to ensure that patients and the public can access research opportunities wherever they receive their care. You will work as part of an agile, multidisciplinary team, using clinical expertise, research knowledge and a flexible approach to help deliver safe, participant‑focused studies.

The position is part of the South West Central Agile Research Delivery Team, which operates across three hubs in Bristol, Bournemouth and Gloucestershire. The role requires travel across the region, and the team currently works in a hybrid model with at least 40% of time face‑to‑face.


Main duties of the job

* Work within the scope and code of professional practice.
* Accurately perform and record a range of participant assessments and physiological measurements required by the study protocol, including but not limited to venepuncture, blood pressure, urinalysis, weight and height.
* Manage multiple concurrent projects and research sites, adjusting priorities according to demand.
* Support multiple aspects of study delivery—screening, recruitment, consent, intervention delivery, follow‑ups, data management, sample collection and processing—as appropriate for the job holder’s training competencies.
* Adhere to NMC Code or HCPC Code and Scope of professional conduct/practice, and to policies governing clinical practice at local and national level.
* Actively contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and well‑being.
* Engage with, recruit and support participants from a broad spectrum of diverse communities.
* Advocate the value of patient and public involvement in the design, delivery and dissemination of research.
* Deliver high‑quality care as a member of the multidisciplinary team to assess, plan, contribute to and support the implementation of research‑based practice.


Person specification

* Registered Nurse, Midwife or AHP on the relevant part of the professional register (NMC / HCPC).
* Knowledge of the governance and legislative framework for conducting clinical research studies, including ICH Good Clinical Practice.
* Experience delivering and caring for patients/participants enrolled in research studies.
* Knowledge and experience of the clinical trial and health‑and‑care research lifecycle, including setting up and delivering research studies in a health and care setting.
* Knowledge and experience of data interpretation, verification and reporting to local and national centres.


Qualifications and Education

* Educated to degree level in science or health‑related discipline, or in another field with experience delivering clinical research trials or recent clinical experience.
* Registered Nurse, Midwife or AHP on the relevant part of the professional register (NMC / HCPC).
* Evidence of ongoing professional development.


Skills and Abilities

* Good IT skills, particularly in the use of web applications, MS Office and/or Google Hub applications.
* Good planning and organisational skills.
* Good interpersonal and communication skills.
* Ability to work autonomously and to coordinate multidisciplinary activities associated with the management of research studies.
* Understanding of personal accountability.
* Ability to travel for work and hold a current driving licence.
* Team player; adaptable and flexible approach to work.
* Integrity and excellent attention to detail.
* Ability to work calmly, effectively and independently under pressure.
* Desire to maintain competence level through continuous learning.
