Job Description
We are looking to recruit a Civil Engineering Lead to join the Civil Engineering Design Management Team (DMT) within the Hinkley Point C (HPC) project. You will be based at one of our sites around Bridgwater with a mix of being in the office and working from home. There will also be some travel to other sites in the UK and in Europe.
The Civil DMT ensure that HPC Design Entities deliver to quality, cost, schedule, a coherent, safe and compliant design fit for procurement, construction, commissioning and operation.
Members of the Civil Engineering DMT support the delivery of the Main Civil Works contract objectives, through a collaborative approach among all parties, with the following main missions;
* Accountable for integrated delivery of Civil Engineering Design from ‘End-to-hand-over to site’ while design entities remain responsible on their own scope.
* Accountable for integrated delivery of Steelwork Engineering Design from End-to-End while design entities remain responsible on their own scope (covering design evolution through the design production, manufacturing and installation phases).
* Provides constructible design deliverables with appropriate quality and maturity level.
* Support overall configuration management pre-handover to site.
* Leverages on lessons learnt from previous similar projects and ensures continuous and progressive improvement linked to design, constructability and repetition as the project evolves.
You will be required to develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders ensuring that their expectations are met wherever possible. As well as being a role model and demonstrate the highest standards of focus on nuclear professionalism and safety.
Reporting to the Steelwork Engineering Delivery Manager, the key responsibilities are but not limited to the below:
Contract Management
* Support the contract team to validate activity programme of task order on their scope.
* Raise and respond to EW going to/coming from designers when necessary.
* Responsible for the development of Project Work Requests (PWR) and Early Warnings (EW) on their scope with support from the contract management team and is engaged with the Project Manager on key topics – influencing the Programme as necessary.
Schedule Management
* Oversee the L2 Engineering schedule and ensures that there are people and processes in place to assure the L3 schedules are aligned with this L2 plan.
* Ensure Engineering Project Controls are provided with the correct NNB input data for schedule updates.
Cost Control
* Support the Engineering Delivery Manager and Engineering Project Controls team to agree annual contract budgets, delivering on cost challenges and supporting cost at completion exercises.
* Provide Programme Directors with support to develop business cases which include client Contract and Designer information.
* Support to PI Contract Management Team in the assessment of Compensation Event costings.
Reporting
* Provide Engineering reporting relevant to their respective scope.
* Management of Risks, Opportunities, Trends and Changes
* Support the management of Engineering risks (Project and Technical) and opportunities on behalf of the Programme Directors.
* Ensure that Engineering organisations (EDVANCE, EDF-SA (CNEPE) and NNB and Site Design teams) identify, progress and prioritise risks and opportunities accordingly.
* Ensure change papers are raised in a timely fashion on behalf of the Programme Team or the Engineering Team.
Technical Design Vision
* Is involved with Design Change preparation (CMB) and technical decision committee preparation (TDC) together with contributing teams.
* Supports the CMB and TDC topics related to their scope on behalf of the Engineering Delivery Manager.
Configuration and Change Management
* Responsible for coordinating with the respective Plant Integration Configuration Engineer to ensure RC2 and Post-RC2 (design open points, design changes, referential changes), especially regarding the associated impact assessment with support to programme managers and other functions.
Qualifications
* Strong knowledge of civil engineering design principles.
* Knowledge of design process and design activities related to Nuclear Industry.
* Knowledge of power station design (EPR or NPP).
* Degree in a relevant science or engineering subject.
* Good project management and organisational skills.
* Understanding of quality requirements.
* Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation including CDM and Nuclear Site License requirements.
* Ability to travel regularly between the various project Command Centres and engineering entities.
Additional Information
Due to the nature of work to be undertaken applicants will be required to meet certain residency criteria in order to attain a minimum level of UK security clearance if not already security cleared to a minimum SC level.
