Role Overview
We are delighted to offer a part‑time Clinical or Counselling Psychologist (Band 8a) within the City Central Local Mental Health Team (LMHT) at Highbury Hospital. The position is suitable for candidates qualifying in 2025, with Band 7 applicants eligible to progress to Band 8a upon completion of a ratified preceptorship portfolio.
The post can be combined with 15 hours per week, allowing you to work within the Step 4 City Psychological Health Service alongside a dedicated team of Clinical and Counselling Psychologists who provide individual therapy across a wide range of presentations.
Key Responsibilities
* Enhance the psychological mindedness of the Multi‑Disciplinary Team and Adult Mental Health Service and improve the psychological competence and confidence of non‑psychologists within the MDT to deliver psychological interventions.
* Provide competent and evidence‑based psychological therapy to service users with complex trauma, psychosis, depression, anxiety, dissociation, self‑harm and life‑threatening behaviours.
* Engage in regular team meetings to discuss referrals, supervision and support, and contribute to the wider development of psychological practice within the LMHT.
* Take an active role in quality improvement initiatives, including commissioning, research and the production of articles and training materials to promote psychological insight across the wider directorate.
* Support and supervise less experienced staff as appropriate, especially for Band 7 postholders.
Qualifications & Experience
Applicants must hold a recognised qualification in Clinical or Counselling Psychology, with evidence of competence at or above Band 8a. Candidates who will qualify in 2025 are also welcome. A funded preceptorship portfolio is required for Band 7 applicants seeking progression to Band 8a.
Experience of working within a local mental health team and a demonstrated commitment to systemic, multi‑disciplinary practice will be considered an advantage.
Applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check; costs (£26.40 standard or £54.40 enhanced) will be deducted from salary over the first two months of employment. The DBS Update Service fee of £16 per year will apply.
Visa & Sponsorship
Only UK‑based or EU/UK settled status applicants will be considered. This post does not meet the minimum salary requirement for sponsorship of a Skilled Worker or Health & Care visa. Successions with no prior NHS experience will normally be placed at the bottom of the band and will not be eligible for visa sponsorship.
Conditions & Other Information
The postholder will build part of a friendly and supportive psychological therapy team. Opportunities for professional development, including the possibility of specialisation, are available in a committed adult mental health setting.
