Location : Bristol

Salary : Up to £55,000 (depending on experience)

Working model : Hybrid – typically 2–4 days per week on-site

An opportunity has arisen to join a leading defence technology organisation at the forefront of innovation in Directed Energy Weapon Systems. You’ll be part of the highly publicised DragonFire programme – the UK’s first Laser Directed Energy Weapon (LDEW) demonstrator, which has achieved remarkable success in recent trials and continues to evolve into a deployable, world-class air defence system.

As a Systems Engineer within the Requirements & Certification domain, you will ensure that this next-generation technology meets the highest standards of performance, safety, and compliance. You’ll play a critical role in shaping the system’s specification, proving, and assurance activities across its lifecycle.

What you’ll be doing:

• Leading requirements analysis, specification, and justification for complex system designs.

• Supporting system proving, verification, and certification to ensure compliance with engineering and safety standards.

• Managing requirement flow-down through the system, sub-system, and equipment levels.

• Communicating technical issues and design rationale clearly to internal and external stakeholders.

• Supporting technical mediation and problem-solving throughout the system lifecycle.

What we’re looking for:

• Background in systems engineering with experience in requirements management, design assurance, or certification.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to technical detail and traceability.

• Ability to collaborate across disciplines and communicate effectively at all levels.

• Familiarity with tools such as DOORS, DOORS NG, or Rhapsody is desirable.

• Experience in the defence or other highly regulated engineering environments is advantageous.

• A delivery-focused, proactive mindset with a passion for working on cutting-edge technology.

Additional details:

Applicants must be British citizens or dual nationals holding British citizenship and will be required to obtain security clearance (BPSS minimum).

The role comes with a competitive benefits package, including a company bonus of up to £2,500, pension contributions up to 14%, flexible working, enhanced parental leave, and additional flexi leave opportunities.
