English Teacher

We are seeking an English Teacher for an independent specialist school dedicated to providing high-quality, therapeutic, and child-centred education for pupils aged 11 to 17 years with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs (SEMH). Many of our students also have other Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) such as Autism, ADHD, and communication difficulties.
About the Role
As an English Teacher, you will be primarily focused on understanding and supporting each child's unique needs. You will be responsible for planning and delivering an English curriculum that spans Entry Level, Functional Skills, Key Stage 3, and GCSE. Our goal is to maintain high aspirations for our students, ensuring they receive the qualifications and life chances they deserve.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
* Develop and deliver engaging English lessons that are tailored to students with varying needs and abilities.
* Create a learning environment that is inspiring and adapted to the individual challenges of students with SEMH and SEND.
* Collaborate with therapy professionals, parents/carers, and local authority teams to secure outstanding outcomes for students.
* Participate in the decision-making processes that impact school operations and student success.
* Contribute to both the academic and extracurricular programs by bringing personal interests and passions to enhance the educational experience.
Required Skills & Qualifications
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a specialization in English.
* Experience in or ability to manage complex and challenging behaviours.
* Strong understanding of the educational needs of children with SEMH and SEND.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students and colleagues.
* Ability to work flexibly and adapt teaching methods to meet individual student needs.
