Job Role: Mechanical Engineering Technician
Location: Belfast
Pay Rate: £19.11 per hour
Hours: 36.25 per week, Monday- Friday
Contract: up to 6 months with possible extension
The role:
To work as a Mechanical Engineering technician as part of the Fleet Mechanical & Engineering teams within the three regional workshops to ensure service delivery of all specialist operational equipment and vehicles is met at all times.
The Mechanical Engineering Technician (MET) is responsible for the Inspection, diagnostics, planned maintenance, emergency repair, bodywork, Coach building and modification to all vehicles and equipment within the NIFRS fleet of Vehicles and Operational equipment. The MET will be expected to work across differing trade disciplines in carrying out their role.
To participate in the Regional Standby Rota to facilitate an effective support network to ensure operational resilience is maintained out of hours. This involves carrying out the emergency repair of vehicles and equipment and vehicle recovery for operational incidents on a 24/7 basis.
To contribute as an integral member of the Fleet & Engineering team to support the vision and mission of NIFRS in the following areas-
- Asset and Services Management
- Asset and Services MIS Management and Delivery
- Financial and Stock Management
- Management & People Development
- Corporate Governance, Data & information Assurance
- Systems & Service Improvement
The ideal candidate will:
- Possess a certified level 3 trade qualification as depicted in the NQF in Vehicle Repair and Maintenance
- Have at least two years' post apprentice experience working in a trade role in their area of expertise which includes heavy vehicle
- Hold a Level 3 qualification as depicted in the NQF in vehicle system repair and replacement in Electric/Hybrid Vehicles
- Be qualified to safely install, maintain and fault find both 240v and 110v electrical systems on vehicles and equipment
- Possess a current UK C Class driving licence
- Be willing to participate in the Regional Engineering on call Rota which involves working antisocial hours including weekends and late nights in order to support emergency response operations
- Have the ability to lift heavy equipment and work in a physically demanding environment while following health and safety working practices
