Everything You Need to Know
Our Customer Operations team has an opportunity for you to join as one of our new Ecologists. We’re seeking multiple ecologists, so if you're open to opportunities in different counties, your application may be considered for those positions as well. Just let us know in your application.
You’ll support our Biodiversity and Ecology Team, working closely with Senior Ecologists and the wider business to provide ecological advice, including Biodiversity Net Gain application.
Key Responsibilities
* Assess ecological risks and opportunities in asset design, construction, and maintenance.
* Develop strategies to avoid/mitigate harm in scheme delivery.
* Ensure licenses and controls meet species and habitat obligations.
* Provide technical input into standards, guidance, and training to support biodiversity protection and enhancement.
* Undertake ecological field surveys, act as Ecological Clerk of Works, and perform site inspections.
* Maintain ecological data for analysis and future insights.
* Manage relationships with ecological contractors.
* Support incident response with ecological expertise.
* Build relationships with agencies like the Environment Agency and Natural England.
* Support R&D for ecological outcomes within and across water companies.
Candidate Requirements
Applicants should have knowledge of species and habitat conservation policies, ideally hold licenses for protected species, and possess a relevant degree in ecology or related field. Membership of a professional body (or working towards it), knowledge of Biodiversity Net Gain, and experience with environmental policies in England and Wales are desirable. Excellent communication skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office, GIS, and UKHAB are essential. A full UK driving license is required.
