About the role
Are you a qualified or newly qualified Dental Nurse looking for a challenging role working with Dentists at the top of their game in the NHS?
In a role where each day brings new opportunities to help patients either in an emergency or from vulnerable groups, you will support the dental team and enhance your knowledge and qualifications.
Key responsibilities
* Chair‑side assistance: speed and accuracy during all procedures, preparation of filling and impression materials, anticipating the clinician’s and patient’s requirements.
* Infection control: follow Trust/Local procedures and high standards of patient safety.
* X‑ray support: assist the dentist during the taking of x‑rays and participate in quality assurance.
* Oral hygiene advice: advise patients, parents or carers on principles of oral hygiene as directed by the dental officer.
* Medicine management: follow medicine management procedures in line with Trust policy.
* Patient support: observe and support the patient during treatment, act as a witness and chaperone the dentist when required.
* Day‑surgery support: administer and manage day surgery general anaesthetic lists, book appointments, liaise with day surgery staff and ensure all paperwork is complete.
* Stock management: maintain stock levels and re‑order as necessary.
* Administrative duties: record patient data, treatment planning, payment transactions and other services, collect charges, cash and petty cash, and maintain patient confidentiality.
* Communication: liaise with patients, carers, healthcare professionals, laboratory personnel, other departments and external organisations; collect patient feedback after each interaction.
* Safeguarding and data protection: uphold safeguarding responsibilities for children and adults at risk of abuse or neglect, and adhere to the Data Protection Act, CCS policy and Trust information governance and security policies.
Key qualifications and personal attributes
* Registered with the General Dental Council (GDC) and maintain professional registration.
* Experienced Dental Nurse with competence in chair‑side assistance and a broad knowledge of health and safety issues (COSHH, RIDDOR, sharps injuries).
* Calm, patient and caring with the ability to support vulnerable groups and manage challenging behaviour.
* Proficient in computer use for patient data input, treatment planning and payment transactions.
* Ability to work additional hours if offered.
* Willingness to participate in training, continuous professional development and the Trust’s internal and external communication strategies.
