About The Service

Cardiff Parenting Services (which includes the Flying Start Project) are part of Cardiff Early Help. Cardiff Parenting Services are strategically led by a Senior Educational Psychologist and include teams that deliver group and individual parenting programmes and interventions, across the whole of Cardiff. We work in community settings, sometimes with families in the home and in accommodation such as hostels.

We have office bases across Cardiff, and also have equipment for mobile working.

About the job

The Cardiff Flying Start Groups Team currently provide informal drop-in sessions and engaging fun and informative Parenting Programmes in community venues across the city. Our wider work involves the delivery of a menu of formal and informal Parenting Provision delivered in groups, where the facilitating team are supported by programme coordinators.

Delivering with a Senior Parent Group Facilitator, the successful candidate will contribute to planning, providing and evaluating, effective programmes of play & parent support intervention. Particularly inclusive of families with children under 4 years of age, they will pro-actively contribute to the creation of welcoming and inclusive environments that are sensitive to the needs of adults and children using our service. They will foster a safe place for parents and children to play and interact, to support wellbeing and enhance positive parenting skills. Including leading on quality creche provision that supports families to access the Flying Start Parent Group support.

Hours of work are 8am - 4pm

What We Are Looking For From You

A L3 qualification in Children’s Care, Learning, Play and Development is essential (see the job description and personal specification for further details relating to qualifications) Also essential is a clean driving license and the use of a car, as successful candidates will be required to move around the city for delivery.

The post holder should have a genuine interest and love of working with children under 4 and their families. We often work with service users who are experiencing challenge and trauma, so candidates will need to have a non-judgemental approach, demonstrating kindness, empathy and understanding.

Candidates must have a comprehensive knowledge of the developmental needs of children and be able to deliver information to parents about their child’s development or parenting approaches in a sensitive manner.

The post holder will receive, and need to problem solve and respond appropriately to, disclosures from service users concerning vulnerable children and/or adults, child protection and/or domestic abuse. Seeking support and advice from the Senior facilitator to efficiently follow protocols and procedures as necessary.

A clean driving licence and access to a vehicle is also essential, as the role requires travel across all areas of the city.

The ability to speak other languages, in particular Welsh alongside other community languages would be an advantage.

This post is temporary until 31st March 2027.
