Role Description

Job Purpose

1. This role ensures the technical foundations are robust, providing compliance through well-defined quality management systems to support high performance.
2. Responsible for food safety, HACCP, internal audits, and quality management systems to drive site improvements and continuous improvement initiatives.
3. Supports senior technical leaders to ensure quality, legal compliance, food safety, brand integrity, and a positive culture, including environmental, sustainability, and health & safety aspects.
4. Develops frameworks to measure and review products and processes, maintaining a right-first-time approach.
5. Sets up factory management systems for product evaluation from trial to launch, including risk assessments and system readiness.
6. Provides communication tools for business reviews, factory briefings, and assessments to monitor KPIs and support technical strategy implementation.
7. Supports technical evaluations, gap analyses, and continuous improvement efforts aligned with group strategies.
8. Ensures systems comply with customer codes of practice, industry standards like BRC, RSPO, and NGO requirements.
9. Creates site plans aligned with food safety and quality culture reviews, sharing best practices across sites.
10. Develops audit frameworks to assess compliance with GMP, hygiene, HACCP, and other standards.
11. Oversees traceability and claims verification processes, ensuring compliance and readiness for audits.
12. Manages customer complaint investigations to reduce trends and improve processes.
13. Acts as deputy for the Food Safety Manager.


Dimensions

* Reports to: Food Safety Manager
* Direct reports: Technical Administrator
* Internal contacts include group and site technical and operations teams
* External contacts include retailers, EHO, NGOs, auditors, suppliers, and trade bodies
* Travel within the UK may be required


Principal Responsibilities

1. Collaborate with the Food Safety Manager to ensure technical foundations are effective and regularly assessed.
2. Manage the Quality Management System to ensure accuracy, compliance, and fit-for-purpose procedures.
3. Ensure factory systems and specifications meet industry, customer, and internal requirements.
4. Oversee internal audit management systems, ensuring coverage, robustness, and trend analysis.
5. Conduct comprehensive audits, follow up on non-conformities, and implement corrective actions.
6. Maintain factory management systems for new product development and process changes.
7. Participate in HACCP team activities, ensuring system effectiveness and compliance.
8. Manage complaint systems, driving trend analysis and corrective actions.
9. Define quality monitoring points to evaluate products for a right-first-time approach.
10. Maintain risk assessments and testing regimes for microbiological, chemical, allergenic, claims, and hygiene parameters.
11. Generate trend data reports for business review cycles, supporting continuous improvement.
12. Support third-party inspections and audits, ensuring corrective actions are completed.
13. Maintain site accreditations and promote a culture of food safety and quality.
14. Track and report on the effectiveness of improvement projects.
15. Ensure adherence to policies related to food safety, legality, and integrity.


Role Requirements

Skills & Qualifications:

* Degree in a food-related subject or equivalent
* Level 3 Food Hygiene and HACCP certification
* Extensive knowledge of BRC & IFS standards
* Proven experience with QMS and retailer codes of practice
* Experience in internal auditing and food manufacturing processes
* Proven continuous improvement skills
* Highly proficient in computer applications
* Lead Auditor trained
