The Neuro Therapy Centre provides life-changing support to adults living with neurological conditions and their Carers. Through physical and emotional therapies, we help people navigate the emotional, physical and practical challenges that can follow a diagnosis. We are now seeking a compassionate and motivated Band 5 Counsellor to join our multidisciplinary team and contribute to our growing mental-health support services.
About the Role
As a Band 5 Counsellor, you will play a vital role in improving the emotional wellbeing and resilience of people with neurological conditions and their Carers. You will work face-to-face and virtually - supporting people facing a wide range of personal, emotional, and social issues linked to disability, life changes, caring responsibilities, and loss.
You will provide structured, person-centred counselling and assessment, contribute to further developing our holistic mental-health offering, and collaborate closely with the wider team to ensure high-quality, joined-up care.
Key Responsibilities
* Offer specialist one-to-one and group counselling to people both in-person and remotely.
* Undertake assessments and interventions addressing emotional wellbeing, coping strategies, resilience, bereavement and life transitions.
* Support wellbeing initiatives across the Centre, including peer-support groups, listening services, and Carer programmes.
* Contribute to new wellbeing initiatives developed in response to people's needs.
* Maintain practice standards aligned with BACP/NCPS codes of ethics and Centre clinical guidelines.
* Manage your own clinical caseload, including complex cases.
* Maintain accurate, confidential records and produce reports, assessments and outcome measures as required.
* Contribute ideas for service improvement and innovative wellbeing projects.
About You
We are looking for a counsellor who is compassionate, adaptable, and committed to delivering high-quality therapeutic support within a community setting.
Essential Requirements
* Recognised Diploma-level qualification (or equivalent) in counselling.
* Registration or accreditation with BACP/NCPS (or other recognised body).
* Demonstrable post-qualification counselling experience.
* Experience working within recognised theoretical frameworks, with the ability to adapt to individual needs.
* Strong communication skills - verbal, written, and digital (including telephone/video sessions).
* Ability to manage boundaries, confidentiality and safeguarding responsibilities.
* Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary settings.
* Understanding of audit, evaluation and evidence-based practice.
* Enhanced DBS check.
Desirable qualities
* Experience supporting people with long-term conditions or Carers.
* Ability to mentor or support trainee counsellors on placement.
* A proactive, flexible mindset and confidence when working autonomously.
The post is subject to enhanced DBS clearance.
