Painter and Decorator

An opportunity has arisen in CHoICE Facilities as Maintenance Craftsperson (Painter and Decorator). Providing services for South Tyneside & Sunderland NHS FT, CHoICE is an independent wholly-ownedsubsidiary company providing all hard and soft facility services atSunderland Hospital and associated sites.

Joining existing Building Maintenance staffdirectly-employed to form part of Estates Hard FM services within CHoICE.The Team provide planned/reactive maintenance activities with respectto fulfilling it's obligation of a painting programme in-line with NationalStandards of Cleanliness and PLACE standards.

Expected earnings is not intended toprovide a guarantee of earnings, this is a salary range.

The base salary range for this role is £28,303 - £31,052. However, as the role may require the participation and / orcompletion of overtime, additional monetary rewards will be generated as partof this role.

The expected earningspresented within this advert have been established from actual earnings earnedwithin the financial year 2023/24 and are based upon similar roles within theorganisation. The additional earnings are based upon an obtained average and itwill be typical to earn approximately this amount.

Main duties of the job

You must have a detailedunderstanding of painting and decorating processes in relation to buildingservices and maintenance and other related building works in accordance withrelevant statutory and mandatory legislation and best practice guidance. You must also be able to provide evidence of the completion/obtainment ofrecognised relevant Apprenticeship and ideally will have gained maintenanceexperience within a healthcare environment or similar although this is notessential.

You will be expected to receive identifiedworkloads on a handheld device from the Estates and Facilities Help Desk and beexpected to organise and prioritise these daily activities to ensure the tasksare completed in the most efficient and effective manner. Support and guidancewill be provided where necessary to ensure CHoICE can fulfil its statutory andmandatory obligations.

The role will also require the individual to have a flexible andpositive approach to all activities and have the ability to deal with newscenarios as they arise. The role will furthermore require excellentcommunication skills and will require liaison directly with clinical andnon-clinical staff and service users.

Job responsibilities

The main purpose of the role is for the Postholder to undertake planned and reactive painting and decoration-related duties at properties maintained by CHoICE. Appropriate instruction and direction will be provided by a relevant building-related estates officer or supervisor and will be in conjunction with CFS customers' painting programmes, minor new works or reactive defects as required.

Skills and Knowledge

* To have the ability to adapt to the changing demands of the role including the reaction to emergency situations.
* Able to prioritising own workload ensuring that high-quality patient care and SLA targets are achieved.
* Regularly provide and receive routine information and on occasion sensitive information with a range Estates work colleagues, other Trust colleagues and external Trust/CFS contacts.
* Self-motivated with a desire to improve current practices.
* Able to adopt a flexible approach to working hours.
* Good knowledge of building regulations.
* Knowledge of HBNs.


Other

Experience

* Experience of undertaking a wide range of painting and decoration activities;
* Experience of working with multiple building-related trades.
* Multi-skilled working.
* Maintenance background.
* Experience of working in a healthcare environment.


Qualifications

* Basic numeracy & literacy skills to Level 1 or equivalent.
* Basic IT skills.
* BTEC/ONC, City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 in Painting and Decorating or equivalent.
* Completion of recognised and accredited Apprenticeship in a relevant discipline.
* HNC in a building-related discipline.
* Formal Health and Safety qualification e.g. IOSHH Working Safely.


Physical Skills

* Is able to travel and work at all Trust sites.
* Is able to have the ability to undertake moderate physical activities for long periods throughout a typical working day.
* Is able to complete tasks which require short intensive bursts of effort before returning to moderate physical.
* Undertake regular moving and handling activities.
* Requirement for highly-developed physical dexterity, for hand and eye co-ordination and manipulation of fine tools.
