Department Description

The Strategy, Policy & Insight (Function) are trusted thought-leaders bringing expert strategy, policy, market & audience insight – challenging and advising the business to drive delivery of Channel 4’s strategy and remit.

The new centralised Audience Insights (Subfunction) purpose is to be independent thought leaders at the heart of Channel 4’s creative and commercial decision-making, bringing a single source of truth and big picture perspective, challenging and advising the business to ensure profitable business growth through the use of data.

Within the new centralised operating model where all audience and market insight in C4 is centralised into the Audience Insight team, each C-Suite Leader (CEO, Chief Content Officer, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Revenue Officer, Chief Marketing Officer and the Exec Committee as a body) and their Senior Leaders have a dedicated Insight Business Partner (BP) who prioritizes and agrees their Insight requirements, aligned to the strategic C4 pillars. BP Analysts directly source available analysis and where additional, bespoke research or specialised analysis is required, the BP will commission this from the relevant Specialist Lead (to be delivered by their Insight Analysts) managing jointly the presentation back of recommendations to the C-Suite or Senior Leader.

Job Purpose

Working under the direction of the Head of Reporting and Data Enablement this role leads a small team of Developers who are specialists in report and dashboard development and production. These Developers draw relevant data from multiple data sets, and produce best in class, high quality reports and dashboards to meet the needs of C-Suite and Senior Leaders across C4 - providing them and their teams with accurate and timely reports on which they can make business decisions.

KEY RESPONSIBILTIES


* Taking direction from the Head of Reporting & Data Enablement (who has agreed reporting deliverables based on the business need with the Insights BP), the role manages a team of Report Developers to deliver high quality and relevant report insight for C-Suite and Senior Leaders to make informed decisions
* Responsible for auditing and assessing business reporting requirements and agreeing a smaller, prioritised, streamlined catalogue of high value reports (there are currently hundreds of reports) to be produced by the team on an on-going basis that directly feed strategic decisions made by C-Suite and Senior Leaders.
* Responsible for setting the approach for reporting in C4, using best-in-class reporting frameworks, tools and methods and ensuring a joined-up approach to reporting across multiple data sets which meets C4 senior leader requirements and aligns to the C4 strategic priorities.
* The role is required to adopt a business case approach when prioritising business need for reports, driving maximum ROI on the internal resource and working closely with Technology to understand data set relevance, combining data to create a joined-up business picture for Senior Leaders that can be automated for self-serve to maximum users and realise ongoing cost efficiencies.
* The role leads and coaches a team of Developers ensuring they understand the relevant data sets required to build the report and use best-in-class reporting expertise to build a fully tested, automated online dashboard or reports
* Typical reports (80% of the time) will be a regular daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly pattern of standardised format across a) Viewing performance against titles and genres b) product performance (if content was successfully delivered across linear and streaming platforms) and c) sales distribution performance (monitoring contractually committed service across 3rd party partner platforms e.g Sky/ Amazon/ Google)
* For additional reports (20% of the time) the Reporting Manager will prioritise new deliverables for the Report Developer.
* The role will coach for full and effective utilisation of Power BI in the team, keeping informed on new features, constantly seeking improvements in quality and accuracy of reports produced and scanning for future tools and other ways to surface reports.
* The role will be responsible for quality assuring the reports produced, for ensuring every report has a named business sponsor, conducting on-going audits on usage of reports and for recommending to the Reporting Manager when reports can be removed from the catalogue
* Together with the Business Partner teams & Head of Reporting & Data Enablement, the role is responsible for driving the self-service capability (also taking proof of concept from Analytics team to automate for wider C4 self-serve access) to reduce repetitive analysis, cost and improve stakeholder real-time access.
* Lead and develop the team, coaching for excellence and growing the team skills & capabilities

KEY RELATIONSHIPS / STAKEHOLDERS

* Management of a small team of Developers - no direct financial accountability

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

* Proven experience in leading a reporting team with experience in complex and specialised reporting to a best-in-class standard
* Experience managing multiple functions, stakeholders and projects
* Proven experience in Power BI
* High level of experience and knowledge of SQL
* Strong communication skills which enable clear engagement with Insight BP’s and Senior Leaders to test business requirements for a new report and when negotiating the removal of regular reports from the catalogue
* Understanding of the business to interpret the importance of relevant data sets and C-Suite / Senior Leader reporting requirements
* Collaboration skills –proactive ability to build a collaborative environment within the insights function and with Technology (who own the data sets) and across the business to drive the best possible outcome
* Ability to handle multiple projects and priorities, manage timescales, balancing workloads and delivery across the team often under pressure
* MS Office especially Excel & PowerPoint
* Experience of reporting transformation, onboarding new tools and embedding new ways of working in the team (i.e. bringing in new tools and doing a full overhaul of reporting)

Basic salary per annum starting from £70,875.00

Hybrid working From September 2023, C4 has operated a 60/40 working pattern, equating to three office days per week.
