Social Security Scotland, an Executive Agency of the Scottish Government, is undertaking the largest and most complex IT and digital change programme since devolution. The Software Developer – OutSystems post will sit within Social Security Scotland’s Chief Digital Office (CDO), which has a remit to provide infrastructure and systems to support both the wider social security programme and Social Security Scotland.

• B2 - Salary between £36,585 - £41,834 plus a £5,000 annual Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) pay supplement after a 3 month qualifying period. This supplement is backdated and paid with your monthly salary.

DDaT Pay Supplement
This post attracts a £5,000 Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) pay supplement after a 3 months DDaT competency qualifying period. The payment will be backdated to your start date in the supplements are temporary payments designed to address recruitment and retention issues caused by market pressures and are subject to regular review. This post is part of the Scottish Government DDaT a member of the profession you will join the professional development system, currently BCS RoleModelplus.
Hybrid Working
We embrace a hybrid working style where all colleagues will spend time in either our Glasgow or Dundee offices. There is an expectation of a minimum 2 days per week in your assigned location however role specific attendance will be discussed and agreed with successful candidates. Base office location can be in either Glasgow or Dundee.

Responsibilities
As a Software Engineer in the OutSystems team, you will be expected to:
• Manage service components to ensure they meet business needs and performance targets.
• Support specific activities to improve development processes.
• Design and implement embedded security controls in solutions and services.
• Competently apply a modern standards approach and guide others to do so.
• Collaborate with others when necessary to review specifications.
• Use the agreed specifications to design, code, test and document programs or scripts of medium-to-high complexity, using the right standards and tools.
• Participate in team prototyping.
• Advocate for the use of prototypes and testing with others.
• Establish design patterns and iterate them.
• Help fix faults following agreed procedures.
• Carry out agreed maintenance tasks on infrastructure.
• Produce detailed designs.
• Effectively document all work using required standards, methods and tools, including prototyping tools where appropriate.
• Design systems characterised by managed levels of risk, manageable business and technical complexity, and meaningful impact
• Build and test simple interfaces between systems.
• Work on more complex integration as part of a wider team.
• Prioritise and define approaches to understand user stories, guiding others in doing so.
• Offer recommendations on the best tools and methods to use.
