Job Description
Primary Function
* Represent the affiliate’s medical/scientific voice of expertise for assigned product(s) and relevant therapeutic areas.
* Provide medical/scientific expert advice/guidance to key customers, including scientific exchange and relationship development with key thought leaders/external experts.
* Provide medical/scientific input into Medical Affairs strategies for the affiliate medical department and, as required, into commercial plans; provide medical/scientific support under the direction of the Affiliate Medical Director.
* Provide medical affairs support to cross-functional affiliate teams; may provide leadership and mentorship to direct reports, as appropriate.
* Ensure the medical affairs role is fully integrated to support strategy and execution of affiliate business while remaining functionally independent.
Responsibilities
* Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge for assigned product(s)/therapeutic areas through meetings, congresses, seminars, and literature review.
* Provide expert medical/scientific advice, respond to information requests, and contribute to core dossiers (pricing/reimbursement, HEOR, medical information packs, etc.).
* Establish professional relationships with thought leaders and academic centers; participate in congresses, advisory boards, and related activities.
* Deliver scientific presentations and medical education programs to healthcare professionals.
* Screen literature and create summaries of key messages for internal use.
* Deliver training to sales forces and other departments; develop training materials.
* Clinical Research Activities: design and manage clinical projects (Phase IV, post-marketing studies, registries, epidemiological surveys, PMOS); oversee IIS studies as needed; support affiliate Clinical Research.
* Review promotional material for medical/scientific accuracy and compliance; provide input into marketing strategy and competitive intelligence reporting.
* Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, codes of conduct, AbbVie policies, and best practices.
* Contribute to development of medical affairs plans for the affiliate and align medical activities with local business plans; ensure efficient execution of medical implementation plans.
* Provide leadership, line management and development for direct reports, as appropriate.
* Act as scientific interface to HCPs, health care institutions, external experts, and medical societies regarding assigned products or products in development.
* Provide strategic input and operational support for core activities including clinical research, HCP interactions, data generation/communication, educational initiatives and patient safety.

* Affiliate medical personnel and Medical Information teams; pharmacovigilance personnel; Scientific Project Managers.
* Marketing, Sales, Market Access, and Brand teams; Regional and International Medical Affairs teams.
* Regulatory Affairs, Government/Public Affairs; Global Medical Information; HEOR.
* Hospitals, External Experts, and Scientific Societies; Regulatory Authorities.
Qualifications
* Medical Degree or Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline or higher.
* Experience in the pharmaceutical industry and knowledge of drug development and clinical research is an advantage.
* Strong interest in maintaining expert knowledge for the assigned therapeutic area/product and in medical research.
* Excellent written and spoken communication and presentation skills; fluency in English is highly desirable for cross-organization communication.
* Customer-oriented with a strong commitment to compliance, scientific quality and integrity.
* Collaborative, team-oriented; able to develop relationships across the organization and with external stakeholders.
* Experience in cross-functional/matrix environments; independent work with limited supervision; ability to facilitate medical and clinical activities across functions.
* Strong judgment, planning and organizational skills, and a sense of urgency.
